This really helped to change my life

Would you consider the audio edition of Self-Esteem: Fast Proven Treatment for Recovery from Low Self-Esteem to be better than the print version?

I haven't actually read the print version myself, but I'd imagine the audio edition to be better as the narrator's voice was incredibly calming.

This is most similar to Panic Attacks & Anxiety by Jennifer Alison, both have been incredibly helpful and offer similar content that's different enough to warrant owning both.

Confidence is being able to take criticism& praise

Have you ever said, "No one understands," or "No one else struggles this way?" If so, give this book a chance! Self-esteem is your confidence, according to this book, and the author encourages self -care and treating yourself like you would a friend in the same situation, with kindness and respect, as a way to overcome many obstacles in your self-esteem journey.

The book addresses the need to resist urge to push away compliments, and encourages not letting your thoughts and feelings be moved easily by everyone's whims and opinions. The first part of the book is sprinkled with inspirational quotes from well known people.

While acknowledging that self-esteem, and therefore low or high self esteem, will be somewhat unique to the individual, this book is packed with information that can help you identify and change how you feel about yourself. One such list was about characteristics someone with low self esteem might have, which may not look like what you expect - i.e., you may find you relate a lot to the topics covered!

With thought provoking questions and exercises to complete, a broad variety of aspects involving self-esteem are covered. One such point that especially hit home with me was evaluating if one sets unattainable goals, and the negative effects of doing so.

While Part 1 covered habits, coping with disappointment, receiving praise, and dealing with criticism, Part 2 was called: Moving on, building confidence, and building esteem.

An interesting point in this section was that childhood emotions differ among siblings even - I can see that in my own family story.

Also covered were the benefits of play and community, and what that looks like for adults as well as children.

Some negative effects of not having one's needs met as a child were discussed, such as growing up too fast, and constantly being focused on taking care of others but neglecting oneself. An especially hard thing on a child is "keeping the family secret" via lying, and the results of asking a child to do so were discussed in the manner of how that might affect the person as an adult - having a hard time trusting others, opening up to others, and even seeking approval constantly but never fully accepting it.

Abuse versus neglect was touched on, as well, as it also can affect a person's outlooks. Other related topics included alcohol and drugs use and the cycle that can occur generationally, as well as the abusive relationship cycle.

False selflessness was a concept discussed, in a way - selflessness that wasn't honorable, basically, because it damaged oneself with no purpose or out of no necessity. Self soothing was covered, which is a term I never thought of as being applied as an adult.

Other topics included rewriting your relationship blueprint, and rewiring your mindset, not using uniqueness as an excuse (I'm different, no one else is like me), building resilience to criticism, recognizing your own achievements, and setting realistic goals.

The narrator of this book was easy to listen to, and despite the numerous topics covered, it was manageable to absorb much of the material at once due to a good flow.

Great and Practicable Advice!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely! This book is rich with practicable steps and tips that are very helpful when incorporated in the daily life.

Have you listened to any of Heather Tuya’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No I haven't. But, I liked how she performed with ease and liveliness that made the experience of listening to the book cool and enjoyable. I did not get bored even once.

Any additional comments?

I am currently working and taking care of my new family as well. With other issues like finances and workplace pressure, I always find myself interwoven with low self-esteem, pressure, social anxiety, low confidence and problems with my relationship. My life has been desperate as I always seem to be on the wrong path, with nobody on my side.

This unique book have positively impacted my life and am so glad I got it when I needed it most. Am always annoyed and irritated by the useless medical jargons used in many self-help books. However, Dr. Jennifer Alison's have used easy to understand language and simplified terms to give solid advice that is not only practical but easy to implement as well. Listening to the book was very nice and I enjoyed the prose in which it was written. After reading the book, I started implementing the discussed ideas and incorporated them into my daily life.

I have effectively eradicated the low-esteem curse and am now happily living a normal life. However this has only been after applying the tips in the books in my daily life. Dealing with bad times and raise my confidence has never been so easy. My romantic relationship has improved so much and am glad that my wife is now ever smiling and lively. In the workplace, dealing with issues and my workmates has become like a talent, and everybody is becoming my friend. I just feel so happy with my current life. Real enjoyment with no worries.

This book is a must read..Highly recommend!

Big Help

Any additional comments?

Lets be honest here, this is a very very difficult subject to tackle. I have been dealing with Self-Esteem issues all my life. I have good times and bad times but never really feel stable. I have read a lot of books on tis subject. Some did help a bit, many didn’t. To be absolutely honest this is the first one where I didn’t feel like i was being patronised nor did I feel like i was listening to a medical journal. I was listening to actual read advice, which seems slightly different from other nonsense I have heard in the past. Everything felt well researched and comes from people who have ACTUALLY suffered from self-esteem issues, not just what a doctor thinks it might feel like.

I have a long journey to go but i will be honest and say I have never felt so hopeful about the future. This book has given me the tools to get on with my life and rebuild my self-esteem in a more sustainable and lasting way and for that I am eternally grateful.

I recommend this book to anyone suffering from self-esteem issues as well as anxiety and depression. Thanks, 5/5.
