A strong and gentle hand to guide you

Dr. Weekes speaks with an easy and gentle voice. This is no lecture from a highbrow intellectual. This is real help from a someone who cares about the people she speaks with. She says that she has spent her professional life devoted to treating many people with anxiety disorders and that comes across in her presentation. She does not sound like someone reporting from cold research. These are the nuggets from her experiences. Her advice is simple and easy to integrate into your daily habits right away. The simplicity of her ideas does not dilute their power. I feel confident in saying that you will gain a lot from listening.

Short and Sweet

Any additional comments?

I suffered from anxiety and depression a few years back, and it turns out that what Dr. Weekes suggests here as a cure is pretty much exactly what I did back then to get over it. Accept the anxiety -> lose the fear of the anxiety -> lose the anxiety. Since getting pregnant I have had bouts of anxiousness and , occasionally, out of control moodiness that remind me so much of my past anxiety/depression issues that sometimes it has felt like a relapse. So in order to fortify myself against the stress of the impending delivery, the crazy hormones and the sleeplessness ahead, I looked for a little something to help me relax, 'accept my landing', know that even if this is a relapse I can recover again just like I did last time. This "book" is a series of four radio broadcasts from 1967 by Dr. Claire Weekes, in which she speaks in slightly antiquated language about her experience in working with patients that suffer from anxiety disorders. She presents both her views of the underlying problem and the solution to the problem in a very clear, simple and passionate manner, and she is absolutely endearing to listen to :) This recording may be over forty years old, but in my opinion this lady's ideas are still spot on. (Plus - it's quite fun to get a little glimpse of 60s societal norms as a side dish to the still very relevant main material.) I'm so glad I chose this as my 'fortification' book because, strangely, what took me so long to figure out for myself back in the day, what finally let me move on from my extremely frustrating and often debilitating disorder, is right here, in a sweet, neat little 2 hour package. Although I wonder if, had I heard this back then, I might have dismissed it as outdated, way too simple, impossible, not enough. It is none of these things - not if you can get up the guts to truly follow this advise. Good luck!p.s. I recommend listening to the sample to see if you like her manner, diction and accent. Personally, I think they're adorable :)

I couldn't get through this audio.

I think I could *read* this material and like it, but I really couldn't deal with the author's voice. It was much too melodramatic for me. Possibly, this is why most authors don't narrate their own books. You might want to listen to the sample before purchasing. :(

A practical view that will hlpe many:

Her advice is short, sweet, simple and to the point. I beleive will be effective for the vast majority of people who are willing to accept this simple shift in approach. Read this before you spend lots of money on expensive therapy. Well worth the money!

Pass Through Panic by Dr. Claire Weekes

This is by far the best book I've ever read on anxiety disorders. It thoroughly explained the 3 different stages of anxiety, specific anxieties and how to deal with acceptance, the anxiety cycle, negative thought processes and more. For someone who has been dealing with a generalized anxiety disorder for the past 5 years, finally, someone can explain exactly what I'm going through! No doctor or therapist has ever explained it like this.

Good if you want something to increase your stress

Dr Weekes's patronizing approach, melodramatic narrative, and methods to deal with anxiety does not seem to amount to much more than realize you have an issue, cope with it, and/or snap out of it. If she was my therapist, I would have looked for another immediately.

Awesomeness

Claire is cool. She knows how to talk and you can hear compassion in her voice. This book is about acceptance. But acceptance is a precursor for overcoming anxiety. I type overcoming anxiety into google and many people confirm.
