Would you try another book from Steve Stephens and/or Jason Lovett?
No, I would not try another book from this author. Half of the time I'm listening, I have an uncomfortable, scrunched face. It's a very awkward delivery, and more annoyingly, it doesn't even sound like it was edited. Did a native English-speaker write this? It definitely sounded like a non-native-English speaker wrote it without editing. He repeated himself so much that by 30 minutes into it, I was yelling, "You've already said that twice!"
Some of the information seemed way off to me after reading The Art of Raising a Puppy and Be The Pack Leader, two other audio books on this site.
The book was supposed to be specifically about labs but 99% of the information was just general dog information. I bought this to learn about the labrador retriever breed specifically, not about dogs in general. In fact, one time the reader said another dog breed--maybe Doberman or something. A little pet peeve--he rarely uses the word "dog," "lab," or "pup," but insists on saying the full "labrador retriever" every single time he's referring to it. It's surprisingly annoying.
I can't wait for this be over. 22 more minutes. I can do this. (Only finishing because I paid money for it...big mistake).
Would you ever listen to anything by Steve Stephens again?
No, I very much disliked the reader's style and tone of voice.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Too high-pitched and uncomfortable to listen to for very long.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
There were maybe 2 or 3 tips that I had never heard of before and will probably use in the future.
Any additional comments?
Can I get my money back?
This was awful. It seemed very much as if this was written by an enthusiastic thirteen year old, and read out by the slightly dim, mildly precocious, 17 year old cousin. Whilst there was the odd piece of interesting information and a very occasionally helpful factoid this really did seem like the work of a nominally assiduous school-project author and not a professional writer. More or less a complete waste of money.
