Excellent, soul-saving work

I lost my dog of 16 years suddenly ... following several years of other losses and challenges. I was devastated with grief and shocked at just how devastated I was. This audiobook saved me. Megan Devine has an effective, kind, amazing approach to surviving loss and dealing with grief. Thank God for her!

Helpful understanding...

This book is worth it, for anyone who knows grief or knows someone trying to move forward with grief, I urge you to read this book.

I finally feel like someone gets me...

Absolutely loved this book. I don't feel so alone anymore or like I am going crazy. I highly recommend this book to anyone experiencing grief no matter how long ago your grief came to destroy you. It's been 9 years for me and it still feels like today but this book really spoke to that deep part of myself that has become silent and still because of other's expectations of how long my grief should last. This book is all things great for something that cannot be fixed or taken away.

Thank you. I finally feel like a can breathe.

Finally, a book that speaks to the pain and sadness of loss. A manual not demanding that I get over losing the love of my life. No platitudes of "You will get through this, find love again" as if my love is replaceable with another person to fill that gap.

I am both ready to build a life without my husband and never will let him go. He will always be a part of my life. If there is any other man that I can love again he too will have to learn to love John. He is my children's father, our grandchildren's Papa both those that knew him and those that never got the opportunity.

In losing John I have learned, that I have an abundance of love. I am sad and I want to honor my husband and while he is no longer here with me. I will always love him. Because I love him I experience pain, sadness, joy, and deep pains of grief. I likely always will and I am learning to accept that I will always carry this well of pain with me. It does not make me weak, does not make me stronger. It just signifies that I loved.

This book allows me permission to know that I am okay. It does not matter what others think I need to be doing with my grief, moving on, getting over it, what others think of grief is likely coming from shame, blame, and misconceptions of what we are to do when we lose our loved ones.

I am part of a real shitty revolution but I am going to share the message with those willing to listen.

Off the chart authenticity, candor and realness

Had no idea how powerful this book would be. The author is an incrediblly knowlegable and insightful mentor. From her personal experience to her professional expertise, this book was mind-blowing. If you're looking for how to live in a broken world, this tell it like it is author will open that door. As a person wanting to support another's grief, I learned so much and I'm so grateful that I got my hands on this book. This is a must-read /must listen to, go-to resource--- even for those who aren't experiencing grief, it's a proactive course on understanding it from a proactive inside-out point of view. I found the words in this book, and MS. Devine's authentic voice inflections, not only powerful and life changing, but also immensely liberating. Bless you for sharing your gift.

Completely wonderful!

This book is not your typical book about grief. It teaches us how to deal with it better without all the rah-rah stuff involved. It is allowing you for once to feel your pain as if it is heard because our society does not give us permission to feel sad. Society teaches us that we have to be everything else, but we are actually feeling. Here is the simple truth: it is OK to be NOT be OK. We are allowed to process our feelings in our own time and accept the events that happened to us in our own time. This book is beautifully written. I would give it to anyone who like myself experienced loss in any capacity.

Wonderful Reference for a time that sucks!

I loved this book. Although my loss was different, a lot of the feelings and emotions were similar. I just hope I can put into action some of her suggestions.
