Editorial reviews

One of the most prominent sexologists of her generation with an inside-out understanding of the complexities of marriage, Carol Botwin’s work is thoroughly researched and offers a comprehensive, practical, and easy-to-digest examination of the issues facing modern married couples that may contribute to a deterioration of sexual drive, and illustrates ways lovers can reignite the flame of passion through introspection and simple changes in behavior.

Colleen Marlo’s engaging, casually professorial tone effortlessly guides the listener through this enlightening audiobook about a thorny but increasingly relevant topic.

Publisher's summary

Is There Sex After Marriage? is the answer for the millions of Americans trapped in the cycle of low- or no-sex marriages. Contrary to the widespread cultural acceptance, from TV shows to standup comedy, sex doesn't have to end once the honeymoon does. Seasoned sex-pert Carol Botwin brings her decades of relationship experience to bear and teaches couples with no-nonsense candor and plenty of humor how to rekindle the fire they had in their courtship, and how to keep it burning forever. Hailed by one of America's preeminent authorities on human sexuality, here is the single guide to long-term sexual fulfillment that today's couples - young or older, starting out or starting over – have been waiting for. In one indispensable volume, Carol Botwin integrates the latest findings on the nature of sex and love in marriage with straightforward, specific advice from the experts on how to enhance pleasure, surmount problems, negotiate conflicts, tear down barriers, and cope with crises.

Despite the sexual revolution and the greater openness it engendered, the subject of sex in marriage is just beginning to emerge from behind closed doors. Drawing on extensive research, key surveys, and in-depth interviews with representative couples as well as with many of the country's leading sex therapists, this breakthrough book reveals how intimate relationships really work, why they can and do break down, and, most important, how they can be successfully restored.

With candor and empathy, the author explains the many ways in which both the dynamics of marriage and the individual psychological attitudes of men and women bring to it can affect sexual desire at any age and at every phase. "The Natural History of Sex in Marriage" charts the predictable erotic highs and lows of a union, from courtship, through child rearing, to old age. "Hidden Dynamics" section offers new insight into avoiding the pitfalls of marriage: why boredom is usually a cover-up, not a condition…the perfect-couple trap…ghosts from the past…fear of intimacy…anger, stress, and depression…power struggles…and much more. Throughout the book, the pressures and vulnerabilities that mark each phase of married life are pinpointed; typical problems and sabotaging behaviors that erode sex are examined in frank detail; dozens of proven strategies and techniques for making ho-hum sex good, and good sex better, are clearly described.

For every man and woman seeking sexual fulfillment and happiness in a long-term relationship, Is There Sex After Marriage? is the book to read now - and to consult over a lifetime.

Outdated psychology but still relevant

The same age old situations, problems, and barriers in couples haven't changed much over the last 50 years but psychology and psychotherapy certainly have. This book has lots of Freudian references and beliefs that few psychotherapists and psychologists use today. Overall great advice, just know that when it starts talking about being sexually attracted to your parents that is outdated wisdom.

discouraging book

the short answer to the titular question is: "Yes for other people." I got that from the beginning and I couldn't listen any more.

Did you respond to the issue.

This book talks about all the millions of issues from medical experts but does not provide a solution as stated on the cover. Extreme waste of time.
