Publisher's summary

Motivation is both simple and complex. The definition itself is simple - the internal process and external factors that drive us toward a given goal. The ideas behind and the nuances within motivation, however, are complicated. There are professors out there who have spent years, endless hours researching and documenting motivation, trying to figure out what exactly it is that drives the human mind forward.

The reason you picked this book up is because you're after something. There's a goal in your sight, even if that goal is just to list everything you want to accomplish in life. No goal is too big or too small - you can, and should, work toward them all.

In this book, we will discuss motivation, how to fight the urge to give up and how to carry on even when the going gets tough.

This book will contain a real-life story of a close friend of mine, who we will call Joe. He recently crossed a finish line on a very important goal in his life, and I hope his story - as well as the rest of the content in this book - will help you press on.

Don't be a loser! Don't give up! In big ways and small, you have invested in yourself to push you toward a goal. Losing that time, that energy and everything you worked for just because the going gets tough is not an option.

Quick motivation

I liked the fact that book was a quick sort of tune-up on goal setting and motivation. No long stories or drawn out explanations that just waste time and add words to meet a minimum. This is something to listen to over and over for a quick shot of support and focus.

Disappointing

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I think this book may be helpful for someone who has never read any other book on personal development.

Has If You're a Loser, Then Quit turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, absolutely not.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I was extremely disappointed.

Any additional comments?

I have to be honest; I really wanted to like this book, but it was just too thin on content for me to recommend it to anyone.

This book was just disappointing. If You're a Loser, Then Quit is almost too short to be considered a book. The content would be more appropriate for a keynote speech rather than a book. As I was reading it, I couldn't shake the feeling that the only reason the author wrote it was to create an extra revenue stream for himself.

The book covers all the standard topics you'd expect, from goal setting to how to stay motivated. The only problem is the book is so short that the author didn't cover any single topic in any significant detail, which makes the book kind of useless. For example, when the author discusses SMART goals, he explains what the acronym stands for, but he doesn't give the reader any examples of how to write down your goals using the formula, nor does he suggest any methods for measuring your progress.

The only people who "might" get something out of this book are those who've never read personal development books before There's absolutely nothing new or unique about this book. If you're a voracious reader of books on personal development, then this book will be nothing but a waste of your time and money.

are you a loser?

A brief and humorous guide to building and maintaining self-motivation.

Determine your goals, break them down into actionable steps, review your progress and reward yourself along the way.

My favorite piece of advice was how to deal with naysayers.

Sorry to say, but just not a lot here

Would you try another book from L. David Harris and/or L. David Harris?

Maybe a fitting book for someone looking for a motivational book and has never been exposed to the genre. I just really don't think I uncovered anything that was insightful. I will probably not try another book by this author.

Short and sweet

This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of Audiobook Blast. It was a decent listen. I liked the length, but at times felt it was a little vague. I like listening to motivational audio books.

Good intentions, poor sources

What would have made If You're a Loser, Then Quit better?

The author/narrator is positive and upbeat and the book has good intentions but it needs more reputable sources...

Has If You're a Loser, Then Quit turned you off from other books in this genre?

...the sources for his examples and suggestions were mostly from the Internet - nothing concrete or factual from books or actual research – and that made those sources lose credibility.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of L. David Harris?

As I listened to the book, I kept thinking it was RuPaul talking and I kept waiting for him to say “You better work!” So, I think that threw me off a bit. Not sure who else I would cast to narrate this book.

What character would you cut from If You're a Loser, Then Quit?

N/A

Any additional comments?

Overall, a decent book but nothing I haven’t heard before.
