This is a guided meditation recording. I bought this book because I was curious about the techniques employed, and to see if overcoming certain fears would make me a better athlete. I do believe that fear is a useful warning mechanism that should not be ignored, but you should also recognize it for what it is, and not let irrational fears prevent you from progressing further.
The introduction tells you how to use the book, what it contains, and lots of warnings not to listen to it while driving or operation heavy machinery. It is recommended that you listen to the book for every day for 21 days. The first part is a deep relaxation section, and the second part deals with overcoming fear. Throughout the book there are wave sounds in the background and a female narrator talks you through the meditation.
Annoyingly, there are no chapters in the recording, so it is not possible to skip the deep relaxation section unless you know where the second part begins. I believe the second part starts around 21 minutes into the book.
My first listen to this made me fall asleep, so I had no idea what was actually said, which was a little unsettling, however, after listening to the book again, while awake, I can confirm that the message is positive. Will it help you overcome your fears? I think that depends on how willing you are to believe that it works. Certainly you need to approach this with an open mind. The deep relaxation part did help me go to sleep, so I would definitely recommend it to anyone who has problems sleeping. So in a nutshell, my first impressions are positive, and I will try this for 21 days.
