Better than nothing.... But not great.

If you've at least graduated high school, go ahead and save yourself some time by skipping the first 1/3 of the book. Start off on medium or even the hard words, as the easy ones should really be common knowledge for anyone with more than an 8th grade education. I'm definitely no brainiac; just an average guy but there were very few words in the easy category that weren't commonly used in grade school.

One other issue with the audio book is that the two readers would contradict each other. The word is read, defined, given synonyms and antonyms, then used in a sentence. A male and female take turns with each portion and often pronounce the word differently from each other, or use the word in terrible sentence which gives zero hint of the meaning. Many of the definitions were questionable as well and only loosly matched the Websters definition....barely.

Overall, it's better than nothing but not the best way to study your GRE vocab. Good luck!

Very Good

This audiobook allows me to study with my earbuds while at work, driving while listening on my car stereo, and while doing almost anything else at home. I like the levels of difficulty as well.

Pretty Great Study Aide

What made the experience of listening to GRE Vocabulary 3000: Official Test Prep the most enjoyable?

This audiobook was really convenient. I work full time and haven't had as much time as I would like to study. This worked out perfectly for me because I could listen to the book on the train to and from work. The two narrators also make it easier to stay interested and focused.

Which character – as performed by Jared Pike and Daniela Dilorio – was your favorite?

I think that having both voices is really good. They switch off which is nice because it helps you make sure you're not spacing out.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It would be really hard to listen to the whole thing in one sitting, and I would actually recommend listening to it a couple of time.

Any additional comments?

This was just a really helpful book.

Female Reader Totally Unqualified, Male Solid

In my opinion, the content and format of the book is average. They only offer one meaning for each word.

I thought that the male reader was very good. However the female reader mispronounces easily more than 15% of the words (main words, synonyms, antonyms). She even gets wrong very common words on occasion. Several times I thought I was meeting a new word, but once she spelled the word, I recognized that the female narrator had simply been way off in the pronunciation.

It seems apparent that the minimum standards for being on Audible are quite low, and quality checking minimal — or non-existent.

too much with the synonyms and antonyms

It was a bit much with the synonyms and Antonyms. I felt there also was way too many ultra common words.

Not GRE level words

Easy and medium were not remotely GRE-level - "hard"could possibly qualify as easy for the GRE. The narrators were clear, but the examples and supporting antonyms and synonyms rarely seemed to improve word meaning and understanding. Ultimately wasted time that could have been spent studying actual GRE words.

In a Word....Artless

What disappointed you about GRE Vocabulary 3000: Official Test Prep?

First, its nowhere near 3000 words of Prep. If you dont know the easy and moderate words you didn't pass elementary school. Of the 'hard' words maybe 1/3rd of them are good review for the test. The synonyms and antonyms are lazy, unhelpful, and often barely correct. The sentences are often just a rehash of the definition, and again, are often very lazy. Here are some examples:-missionary and enlist are considered hard words-"synonym: accept, antonym: reject"..wow thanks-"Lavage Sentence: He lavaged his clothes" ..lazy sentence that does not help define or teach the word and instead focuses on an old definition. Lavage means to medically wash a hollow organ. Its etymology includes the more basic definition of simply washing, but you're at a disadvantage if all you remember for the test is 'to wash'. The definition does state the word means 'to clean especially medically' but that is still lacking.
