Publisher's summary

When her children left for college, Melissa Shultz was certain that she had prepared them well for their new lives - but her own life was a different matter entirely. Her house was empty, her purpose unclear. If her life was no longer dominated by the day-to-day demands of being "Mom", then who exactly was she? And how would she ever move forward?

From Mom to Me Again is the story of one woman's reinvention. Shultz's struggle with the empty nest and the transformation of her marriage, friendships, career, and ultimately herself, is part memoir and part self-help guide. Funny, poignant, and practical, this book tells Shultz's personal story and provides valuable advice for listeners preparing to send their children off into the world. She shows women that while they'll always be mothers, it's time for them to take center stage in their own lives once again.

A good place to start

Just entering this phase of life and looking for some guidance. It was helpful and on point. I will continue to look for books on this topic but that deal with this phase of life when single. It's a much more difficult road I believe.

Keep Listening/reading

I found it hard to listen first because it made me think about my past and being a mother. I pushed through it and told myself that I needed to feel the sorrow in order to get to the next chapter not only while listening but in my own life. Turned out my instincts were right ended on a positive hopefully note.

Very open and realistic journey

Found myself relating to many of the author's experiences.

Only wish it had a chapter on the single parent empty nester (challenges are quite different then couples)

Emjoyable and helpful read.

Just ok

The second half where she gives actual websites and resources for finding jobs mid-life is helpful. The first half didn’t speak to me.

This was definitely good food for the soul!!!! I realized becoming an empty nester does have its perks. I’m going to see how many perks I can grab a hold of and enjoy this next chapter of life! Thank you!

disapointed

the book was too much about the author's personal stories. I was looking for ideas to help

I wanted to learn not hear her life story

I read this book to learn more about how my wife views our now empty nest situation. I didn't get this book to hear about this author's life story and daddy issues. I had to stop after the 6th chapter. I hope the author has sorted things out in her life. I will find another book to be able to better see my wife's point of view now our kids are grown.
