Publisher's summary

Forget the Vet focuses on the many health benefits of practicing natural remedies. Cooking easy homemade holistic recipes, and treating your pet to a homeopathic agenda, may prevent many trips to your vet's office.

When we look holistically at all the natural cures for ailments in our pets, we ask ourselves, should we go all natural or use supplements that contain processed ingredients? There is no hard or fast rule to this. It is obvious that most products that come from natural sources have higher levels for benefiting our pets than others. The combination of processed substances and natural sources only arise due to the shortage of natural materials in certain locations. It is important to always use products that are as natural as possible. This saves the stress of getting your pets hooked on medications that may do them more harm than good. For instance, steroid injections used to treat asthma hold ingredients that may cause diabetes. The way you treat your pets and groom them, goes a long way in determining their overall health.

Great information for every pet owner

This is a must have for any pet owner. Pennie Mae Cartawick gets right into serious information. I had anticipated this book touching on things like how to make fluffy's coat shiny. I was so wrong. This is a roll up your sleeves and makes your pets healthy audiobook. Forget the Vet, gives you specific information to tackle animal diabetes, liver problems, and other real and important issues with herbs and recipes. I jotted down recipes and took notes. This book is packed and exceeded my expectations. I'm thinking I should probably get it on kindle too. So that I can use it as a reference guide.

I enjoyed Caroline McLaughlin narration. She has an articulate and charming voice.

Worth its weight in gold!

So many tips and tricks for using homemade remedies for absolutely almost everything!
I was amazed at how many homemade recipes are in this book. I have 3 dogs and 3 cats so
I'll be using a lot of these!

I really can't praise this book highly enough. If you are worried about what your pets are
eating, want them to be healthier, or don't want to have to spend hundreds at the vet for
a certain ailment, then this book is for you. I'm so glad that I had the opportunity to
listen to this audiobook. I'll be using it often.

Natural Alternative for Treating Your Pet

If you could sum up Forget the Vet in three words, what would they be?

Homemade Natural Treatment. This book describes how to treat and prevent several health issues in your pets such as diabetes, kidney disease, fleas, and more. It has recipes for making your own pet food and treats. The ingredients are pretty easy to come by. The recipes are not hard to make.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Forget the Vet?

When I heard that pumpkin can treat constipation in your cat, I was surprised. I also found it interesting that brown rice can be used to fight your pet's bad breath. I am a home brewer, so discovering that beer yeast could treat and prevent cat diabetes was useful information.

Have you listened to any of Caroline McLaughlin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, I listened to a smoothie book that she did. She has a nice voice that is easy to listen to. I enjoyed both books, although this is probably the best one I have heard so far.

What insight do you think you’ll apply from Forget the Vet?

My cats liked the salmon dinner recipe, and it was easy to make. I will start using apple cider vinegar to prevent ticks. I will also start using rosemary and flax seed in their food to prevent diabetes and maintain a healthy coat.

Any additional comments?

This is a very useful book. I enjoyed it. It may have been useful to have some of these recipes in print, but I just wrote them down as I listened. I received this book free in exchange for an honest review.

Helpful Household Cures for Your Pets

What insight do you think you’ll apply from Forget the Vet?

This was a fascinating and useful audiobook!

I appreciated the many recipes and strategies for preventing and addressing pet health concerns like allergies, fleas, ticks, bad breath, constipation, diabetes, maintaining healthy teeth, skin and fur, etc. The author provides detailed directions for the recipes, and they seem very natural and easy-to-make. The author also explains the "why" of the various recipes that she shares with the reader/listener, so the recipes had context and made perfect sense to me.

On a side note, I always wondered how cats were able to get their fruits and vegetables in the wild-because in captivity, you usually need to "trick" cats into eating these items by camouflaging them with meat or fish. The author's answer made perfect sense: these items are typically in the stomachs of their prey. Brilliant!
