Publisher's summary

Popular speaker and New York Times best-selling author of Woman Evolve, Sarah Jakes Roberts shows women they are not disqualified by their pain and failures and offers encouragement and strength to believe God’s best is still possible.

Everyone has experiences in their lives that stop them in their tracks and become burdens they carry with them everywhere they go. No one knows this better than Sarah Jakes Roberts.

Pregnant at fourteen, married by nineteen, divorced by twenty-two, and all while under the intense spotlight of being Bishop T.D. Jakes’s daughter, Sarah knows what it is to feel buried by failure and aching pain.

But when her journey brought her to faith’s fork in the road, Sarah found she had to choose between staying in the comfort of the pain she knew or daring to make new wounds and move forward.

Now Sarah shares the numerous life lessons she’s learned along the way with other women also struggling to believe they’re not disqualified by their pain and past mistakes. She delves into topics such as allowing the past to empower the present, choosing to step forward while still being afraid, facing struggles in the midst of community, finding intimacy with God outside of preconceived notions of what it should look like, and learning to focus on others.

In Don’t Settle for Safe, Sarah will help you:

  • View your history with positivity
  • Demolish destructive patterns
  • Connect with true intimacy
  • Repurpose your passion into to your purpose
  • Realize your true calling

With deeply personal stories of her own, Sarah helps listeners find their way to the right perspective and the confidence to walk toward the best God has for them.

Not what I expected

I feel bad writing a negative review, but I need to be honest. She has a beautiful story, is incredibly vulnerable and I can see how she could reach a lot of people.

I however read a lot of motivational/self development books, and expected more nuggets to take away, rather than listening to her story. I was seeking more practical application to my life and my story. I felt like it spoke to a more oppressed woman, or someone whose past was holding them back.

A Must Read!

Great book, I just found the narrator's voice to be a bit annoying so that made it hard to fully enjoy it.

So Glad I Gave a Second Listen with an Open Heart

I didn’t make it through half of this book on my first attempt. The narration distracted me and for some reason it just sounded repetitive and boring. But the truth is, I probably wasn’t in a place to really appreciate the content and half listened.

Something told me this week to give it another try and I am so glad that I did. Sarah’s story is one of triumph and she speaks on a lot of topics that can be uncomfortable - like forgiveness and addressing your past 😊.

The book is remarkable and I highly recommend it. Ironically she even says in the earlier chapter that you may put it down but you will come back! I am looking forward to reading more from her.

Book was ok

Many other reviewers commented on the narrator and how her tone or voice made it difficult to enjoy. I still wanted to give this book a chance. I did push through and found there were some nuggets of wisdom. But overall, for me the book lacked depth. It was ok.

Amazing!

I could listen by audio. I usually don’t like audio books because the voice is annoying, but with this book it was interesting and kept me intrigued. Pastor Sarah gave so much confirmation and also validation of the thoughts that have crossed my mind in the past and thinking that still I discover presently. This book was a blessing and my prayer is that you too find connections that will help you evolve!
