Publisher's summary

Are you constantly obsessing over the way your spouse, girlfriend, boyfriend, partner, or significant other is behaving, as a result of his or her being depressed? Do you feel like your plans are always revolving around your husband, wife, or partner's mood swings? Do you feel like you always come second place to the depression that your significant other suffers with?

I know exactly what you are living through with while being in love with someone who is suffering from depression. I've lived with several people in my family for many years who have been diagnosed with anxiety or depression disorders.

Through many years of going to support-group meetings, meeting with therapists, and interacting with depressed loved ones, I've learned how to cope with people who are depressed. The wisdom I share in this audiobook comes from hands-on experience in dealing with depressed people.

When you are finished with this audiobook on coping with someone who is depressed, you will understand:

  • What you can do and should do to help your relationship with the depressed person to be healthier
  • How to love your partner, friend, or family member without conditions
  • Why you need to take care of yourself and avoid obsessing over the depressed person's mood swings
  • How to respond in an intelligent way to occasional insanity rather than reacting negatively.
  • And much, much more!

Helpful

The number one most important thing I learned is there is such a thing as trying too hard. Depression makes well meaning things feel bad. This book lends perspective and insight. Some points made are fairly commonly known (if you have any experience with depression) but still offers useful examples and an perspective.

Too short

basically this book tells you to get other books like "what is depression" and "how to deal with depression". I was hoping for more scenario based explanations to go with the tips. the narration is a bit hard to follow, like it's easy to tell when the narrator moved to the next line. Did learn something though so 3 stars for me. I'd recommend this for anyone that wants a starting point though.

Helpful But Hard to Listen To

Great advice; terrible, robotic narration. I eventually got past it but it was definitely hard.

Needs so much work

I can see why the narrator goes by “Anonymous.” He’s absolutely terrible. Sounds so robotic—not even monotone, just robotic, like Alexa but so much worse. He makes weird inflections and pauses at awkward times, which distracts from the material.

The material has some good points, but is not well written. It sounds like a friend giving you advice, not like a credible source giving you real, proven strategies. The writing is elementary and sounds like a high schooler’s class report on depression. If you/your loved one is suffering from depression, I would take whatever helpful tips you can get from this, but would 100% recommend you get real help elsewhere. Look into organizations like NAMI or MHA.

Don't give up on a loved one!

What did you love best about Depression in Relationships?

The fact that the book focuses on helping you understand that you can assist someone struggling with depression, by offering support for you to do so and explaining the most helpful way to go about it.

What did you like best about this story?

There are tips that you can use in daily life.

Which character – as performed by JC Anonymous – was your favorite?

There's weren't any characters, just a narrator that pronounced everything well.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Some of the book is also designed to help people when they are depressed and in a relationship. I like that the book helps with both points of view.

Any additional comments?

This book is easy to read and can help people that don't know where to begin. It isn't filled with overly medical ideas, so anyone can understand it and make changes.

This is very standard stuff for any illness. Love them don't beat them up. Nothing was useful for me here.

Way too short!

Not nearly enough info as I was looking for. Huge ripoff! I would not recommend spending your money on this book.
