Publisher's summary

Most relationship problems are essentially trust issues, explains psychotherapist David Richo. Whether it's fear of commitment, insecurity, jealousy, or a tendency to be controlling, the real obstacle is a fundamental lack of trust - both in ourselves and in our partner. Daring to Trust offers key insights and practical exercises for exploring and addressing our trust issues in relationships. Topics include:

  • How we learn early in life to trust others (or not to trust them)
  • Why we fear trusting
  • Developing greater trust in ourselves as the basis for trusting others
  • How to know if someone is trustworthy
  • Nave trust vs. healthy, adult trust
  • What to do when trust is broken

Ultimately, Richo explains, we must develop trust in four directions: toward ourselves, toward others, toward life as it is, and toward a higher power or spiritual path. These four types of trust are not only the basis of healthy relationships, they are also the foundation of emotional well-being and freedom from fear.

BRILLIANT!

I got SO much more than I expected in this book. I never thought of the layers of trust: trust in myself, trust in others and trust in of life. The book helped me understand how we end up with the trust patterns we have but even BETTER how do we develop better healthier habits. This is one of the few books that goes beyond psychology into spiritual resources at our disposal no matter our religious faith if any. So good I have recommended this book to friends and family.

Serendipitous

Different books/authors connect with different people - I felt a connection here. The author, David Richo, addresses ego in a way that intuitively makes sense to me. I needed the perspective/insight provided here.
Thank you.

Perfect summary to get me out of codependency

Author helps address where codependency and tolerance of abuse stems from. Please read this and break free from abusive relationships. Also if you want to learn how to trust again and pinpoint a healthy partner this is excellent

I dared.

I was looking for a book to solve my trust issues. I dared to listen. The experience was slightly different than I expected, yet I don't regret any second listening to this. Sometimes, you might disagree with the author. Sometimes, you might feel uncomfortably seen. But in the end, it only makes you question your qualities and ideas in a GOOD way. Dare to.

Also a major shout-out to the narrator, the voice was lovely and truly calming.

Perfect for transition

I wish I could describe how helpful this book is. I just finished it and am listening to it a second time. After a long period of grief. I’m in the early stages of a relationship with someone in similar circumstances we are now both listening to this. Tools and insights in this book are really helpful to us.

Sexist

This book is sound information. The only thing I didn't like is it constantly says it's the male being the issue.10 out of 13 girlfriends were the untrustworthy ones. It goes both ways.

Healing

I had been struggling with trust anyone outside of my family or close friends after a partner in a past relationship was unfaithful. This book allowed me to understand what trust is, why is it so important, why I felt the way I did and how to overcome it at a DEEPER level. I no longer hold resentment on myself, him or the universe for my experience. This book has changed my life in how I view myself, others and experiences. It applies to all areas of life. I am a better elementary teacher because of this book.
