Having suffered with depression my whole life, I finally found something that really helps (besides meds): hypnosis! Over time my mind fills up with negativity and defeat. That's when I put on my earphones and listen to Amy Applebaum. It's like a powerwash for my brain. Any of her hypnosis recordings help.
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I have tried to listen to it properly twice- once in the morning, and once in the evening and both times I fell asleep! The third time I fast forward to the last point that I remembered and made sure I stayed awake to at least find out what the meaty bit in the middle was all about.
After this, I think it is very good and has a lot of potential but the 'journey' that you go on has steps, then a floating over a landscape bit, then a path, then a magic carpet ride, then going through a shield and then floating some more I think, so it was just too long and complicated. You start to feel a little lost, which perhaps is the point; to get away from your normal sense of self. It does allow you to reach a point of talking to your inner self, which I think is what hypnosis is all about. Talking to yourself, when you are deeply relaxed and open and replacing bad thoughts with positive ones while you're there. Its not hypnosis in the 'trance' sense, that some might think it is.
I think it might be best to try it sitting up next time, in a relaxed seated posture and do it as a guided journey rather than a hypnosis as such. Lying down was too relaxing.
What other book might you compare Create Complete Confidence (Self-Hypnosis & Meditation) to, and why?
Glenn Harold tapes have an annoying voice and too many sound effects. Many other hypnosis tapes go off in to talking to your 'inner child' or your soul's guide etc which isn't my cup of tea at all.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
I liked all of it but less is more sometimes. The journey seems a bit over complicated but maybe I will come to like it once its more familiar. Its always harder when you don't know where you are going.
Do you think Create Complete Confidence (Self-Hypnosis & Meditation) needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
I would like a follow up which shorter. 40 minutes is too long and I couldn't help nodding off. Its also a long time to give up every day.
Any additional comments?
I also found that pressing play to one track on my iPad meant that it just followed in to the next when the first had ended, which isn't what you want with this sort of thing. It should just stop, rather than starting again. If you do fall asleep this can make it very confusing. For instance, I awoke to find myself going down the stairs again!! I thought, 'Hang on, I've already been down here', and of course it was the next track. I had missed about 80% of the first one and started again.
