Publisher's Summary

Five hundred years before the birth of Jesus, a God-realized being named Lao-tzu in ancient China dictated 81 verses, which are regarded by many as the ultimate commentary on the nature of our existence. The classic text of these 81 verses, called the Tao Te Ching or the Great Way, offers advice and guidance that is balanced, moral, spiritual, and always concerned with working for the good. In this program, Dr. Wayne W. Dyer has reviewed hundreds of translations of the Tao Te Ching and has created 81 distinct essays on how to apply the ancient wisdom of Lao-tzu to today's modern world. This work contains the entire 81 verses of the Tao, compiled from Wayne's researching of 10 of the most well-respected translations of text that have survived for more than 25 centuries. As Wayne says, "This is an audiobook that will forever change the way you look at your life, and the result will be that you'll live in a new world aligned with nature. I'm so proud to present this interpretation of the Tao Te Ching, and offer the same opportunity for change that it has brought me."

Less is more

I have been a fan of Wayne Dyer for many years and own several of his books. This book I do NOT recommend. The Tao Te Ching is a beautiful spiritual book and in Dr. Dyer's interpretation the beauty and essence is lost. Less is more Dr. Dyer. If you want to listen to a pure and inspiring version of the Tao, I highly recommend Steven Mitchell's book. The title is "Tao Te Ching: A New English Version". When I listen and reflect on Steven Mitchell's version I feel a lump in my throat as I do when I hear any pure wisdom. This is a gauge for me that what I am listening to is connecting with my higher self. When I listen to Wayne Dyer's version, I feel my mind becoming cluttered and confused. I hope this book does not spoil the Tao for those who are hearing it for the first time. Don't stop here. This is not the purest form of interpretation. Seek out the Tao in other interpretations and when you connect you will know and when you know you will be enriched with its essence. Only then will you BE one with the Tao.

This book is a great way to get to know the Dao De Jing or tao te ching, however it's spelled. I have listened to several of Dr. Dyer's works, and I think that this is up there with the best. It's a great real world explanation of the Dao for folks that are looking for a little different perspective on life. I think he does a good job of bringing the "Eastern" philosophy to the "Western" mind. Some of his suggestions may seem a bit pollyanna, but that is his nature.
