Publisher's summary

We are living in one of the most stressful times in human history. This abundance of stress is impacting families and in many cases, manifesting itself in children with difficult and severe behaviors. Homes often turn into intense fighting grounds of power struggles and control battles parents find themselves in us against them scenarios with their children.

Tension continually builds and before long, parents are feeling completely overwhelmed, powerless, and resentful of their children. As parents implement traditional parenting techniques, parenting in a way that most parenting books recommend, they find their situations becoming worse, not better as promised these resources.

In her new book, Beyond Consequences, Logic, and Control: A Love Based Approach to Helping Children with Severe Behaviors, Volume 2, Heather offers practical and effective solutions based in scientific research, coupled with professional and personal experience. She is a master at bridging the gap between academic research and real life when the rubber hits the road parenting.

Very interesting concepts...

Book along with the first one are very interesting to me. I am perplexed at home my son could be so this regulated when I got him from birth. So many of the concepts in the book resonate with me and my experience with my child. I love these books but sometimes what my child is doing has not been covered in the books and I don't know exactly what to do. I will just keep re reading material and hope that some of it becomes transferable for what I am experiencing.

Alternative to power struggles

Though I find the term unconditional love misleading, I think the principles solid. Thanks for turning life from a chore into a worthwhile and joyful experience.

Astoundingly simple. Amazingly effective

First, having it read by Heather made it so genuine .

She helped me realize how my child's illogical, ungrateful, and oppositional behaviors were simply reactions to my behaviors.

Thank you, Heather. You have helped me engage sincerely with my son AND numerous other "difficult personalities" by simply remaining calm, attentive, and acknowledging their fears.
