Publisher's Summary

How to raise kids who can handle the real world...
Today's Generation iY (teens brought up with the Internet) and Homelanders (children born after 9/11) are overexposed to information at an earlier age than ever and paradoxically are underexposed to meaningful relationships and real-life experiences. Artificial Maturity addresses the problem of what to do when parents and teachers mistake children's superficial knowledge for real maturity. The audiobook is filled with practical steps that adults can take to furnish the experiences kids need to balance their abilities with authentic maturity.

Shows how to identify the problem of artificial maturity in Generation iY and Homelanders
Reveals what to do to help children balance autonomy, responsibility, and information
Includes a down-to-earth model for coaching and guiding youth to true maturity

So much to ponder

Truly enjoyed and yet thoroughly hated it. The tension comes as I think about so many opportunities I have lost as now my own children are getting older and wishing I would have started some of these concepts sooner. I also enjoyed the challenge the author posed and as I am a person in position to mentor it has given me so many thoughts and possible ideas. I plan to implement many in my children still at home and lead others who work with me to see the value of these constructs as we seek to put some of them into action.

I liked the balance of identifying the issues and yet remaining optimistic about seeing our next generation still having a valid hope and purpose for their lives. The author sees this generation as leaders and possessing the potential to be great. It is not going to just happen. The parents, mentors, teachers need to see ways to shape that future by not giving in to unmanageable and shifting trends.

Strongly recommend this book if you are a teacher, youth worker, parent or CEO trying to handle the role that leads this next generation.

Necessity

This is my second time listening to this book. As a mom of 15, 12 and 5 year olds I can say this is so important. We will be playing a chapter at every meal this summer until we finish and discuss.
Thank you. My children might not see it now but they will thank you soon!!!
