Concise and well done

First of all this book defines relationship based on compatibility not just love. This is an important distinction, and the author does a great job of building her case, explaining myths prevalent in our culture and then step-by-step guides/tips. She really gets into explaining how to find a person who is compatible with you beyond just looks and the superficial trappings that can get us in so much trouble when seeking long-term commitment and real love. This book is also written in a gender-neutral way for man or woman, whatever sexual preference, so that you focus on the core of her message and not caught up in gender stereotypes. Well done! I would recommend this to anyone who is serious about going to the next level in taking responsibility for their love life or working on their existing love life, as she is adept at communicating to singles and couples already involved with each other.

Provides useful information

I wasn't sure about this author, but this is the second book of hers that I've read and found them both worthwhile. She has some solid suggestions for what to consider when getting into a relationship.

This book is very helpful. I enjoy it a lot

I think the author has a great point of view of what love is and her theories on relationship, love and lust, and the reasons we stay in relationships. And of course, why we put ourselves in relationships in first place. The author is easy to relate to and I often felt that she is talking about my relationship (current and past relationship).

Overall, I think the author had great concepts on love and relationship. I think she was right on the money about the way women think. This book was good for the modern world, relevant to the dating world. The author was helpful for single and married individuals- if you are looking for someone or to fix your relationship. She helped you to make your own decision on your relationship. She gave you a better understanding on relationships. I really enjoyed this book, it helped work on myself and in my relationship. I would recommend this book to anyone.

Super Helpful

I broke up with my bf 3 months ago, after about 14 months together and I have cried nearly every day. I love him so much, but I’m the one who broke up. I’ve regretted it every day, thinking that if I had just tried a little harder, we could have worked through our issues. I was even considering paying $300 to have a coach help me get my ex back.

Then I read this book. This is my 3rd book on the subject and this one finally gave me the validation I needed that I did do the right thing. We had chemistry, we had friendship, we took things slow, we were kind to each other, we did so much right. But we were not compatible in some fundamental ways that I had never thought of, and he has 6 of the nine fatal flaws that will kill a relationship, including an enmeshed family ruled by a very controlling mother who did not want me in the family. I learned from the book that there could be a chance for us if he worked hard on himself and worked through these things that make him unavailable in a relationship, but the odds are that if this happens at all, it won’t happen on our timeline.

So, I’m finally letting him go. And I feel this book will help me do a much better job of finding an actual viable partner.

Didn’t enjoy

I couldn’t get into this one. Very common sense material and dry to boot.

Outstanding

This describes me to a T, Why I have had failed relationships and felt like love has eluded me for so many years. Recently divorced, I have realized that I need to work on the person I am. Barbara's experiences are very helpful. Thank you!

Very well written and extremely insightful.

Absolutely loved it and didn't realize how many patterns I was repeating! Loved that it walks you through the good side and the bad side. While describing each good and bad traits to embrace or learn to let go of.

Disappointing

I heard so many good words about this book but was SADLY disappointed by it entirely! I used my credits to get it... and felt bad I wasted my time and my credits on it. Not to be done again.

Pretty good concepts, but reads too fast!!

This is definitely a self-help interactive book. I had to keep pausing and rewinding to write things down as she barrels through all the concepts! The reader should be slower. It's also pretty short. All very good information to know on how you've been choosing your partners and how to choose a healthy one in the future. The only problem is, that I don't know a perfect person and if they are, they all seem to be taken, so it leaves you feeling a little hopeless. There are so many things you have to make sure your new partner checks off the list. I feel like it's next to impossible. I don't carry all these attributes myself, so how can I expect someone else to already have mastered them all?
Then she tells you to rate your partner on all the key points of compatibility, but then doesn't give you a range to go by. Is it 100% compatibility or nothing?! Goodbye, you're still a little immature, or you have erectile dysfunction like 80% of the men over 40, so you must have pent up anger and therefore, I'm gonna hold out for someone who has EVERY other quality plus doesn't have ED. The checklist is pretty intense. Not super realistic.
Good guidelines to be aware of, but you have to take it with a grain of salt unless you wanna hold out for Mr. Perfect, so essentially, be alone forever.
