It is hard to know how to review this book. The writer is talented. However, the downsides are significant. The stories vary quite a bit. Some rely on the well-documented relationship between health and nutrition, including various diets that have become widely adopted (i.e. the Paleo Diet). Others seem to be a bit more quackery, where the described patient gets well through a series of seeming psychological changes. The latter are hard to take seriously. I also found it a bit off-putting how every story, minus Dr. Wahls', seem to come from upper class individuals with enormous resources to investigate their health issues. Where were the stories from everyday Americans not on the East Coast?
The narration is also a bit hard to take. She has the NPR voice. If you can listen to NPR for 10+ hours, you can listen to this book. Perhaps it was the narrative style of the writing that exacerbated this.
Overall, this is not a book I would recommend to others beginning on their health journey. If the writer had used more consistent stories, I might say otherwise.
I love the style of how she made me feel part of the book ;
