The Antidote is a series of journeys among people who share a single, surprising way of thinking about life. What they have in common is a hunch about human psychology: that it’s our constant effort to eliminate the negative that causes us to feel so anxious, insecure, and unhappy. And that there is an alternative "negative path" to happiness and success that involves embracing the things we spend our lives trying to avoid.

Story
The modern understanding of what it means to be stoical is never showing any form of outward emotion regardless of all circumstances, good or bad, and indeed not having any emotions whatsoever. The entire species of the Vulcans in the popular science fiction franchise Star Trek exemplifies the popular definition. But it's easy to recognize an absence of outward emotion as not necessarily being a good thing.

Empathy is an extremely powerful ability. It allows one to feel what others are feeling, sympathize with them, and eventually influence their emotions to help them overcome any negative feelings. This sensitivity to emotions can sometimes reflect negatively on empaths - they are often victims of dark psychology techniques. Luckily, there’s a way that allows empaths to protect their mind against emotional predators, and achieve superior control over their empathic powers – Stoicism!

Story
The fundamental principles of stoicism are that negative emotions come from bad judgment, and the essence of stoicism is to suppress these harmful emotions. We even say true joy is reached by goodness. Stoics described philosophy as a way of life that you can become a sage by. A sage is someone who has attained excellence in the spiritual and the academic. Most thinkers (including Seneca) emphasized the idea that goodness accomplishes pleasure. For this to be accurate, then a sage would be immune to misfortune because misfortune creates unhappiness.

Words. We use them all the time, every day, mostly without giving them much thought at all. We take for granted that they’re here at our disposal whenever we need them. But if you’ve ever wished you could communicate more effectively, words are the place to start. It’s incumbent upon you to choose the best words to accomplish your goals, because how you choose to communicate influences—well, everything! The power of communication shapes our professional goals, our relationships, and our lives—so the words we choose to use carry a great deal of power.

Too many mistakes
The content is repetitive and cyclical, the writing has grammatical errors that tarnish the intellectualism of the content, and the narrator has a noticeable and slightly distracting drawl.
It feels like listening to a tipsy university student recount the Stoicism chapter of his Philosophy 101 course from last year.
For a better read, try "Stoicism: A Stoic Approach to Modern Life" by Tom Miles.

Extremely basic
This is basically an hour long repetitive affirmation on “don’t try to control the things that are out of your control and you will be happier”. If you did not already know this - listen and you will learn something!
But if you know anything (and I mean ANYTHING) about stoicism, I don’t recommend.

brilliant guide
The book gives a perfect introduction to Stoicism and how to make Stoicism work for maximum benefit. There is a lot to learn from this book, you will learn some parts of philosophy, understanding human emotions and freewill. I now understand affirmations as more of a way to prepare future responses to trying situations.

must listen
This book captures the practical wisdom of Stoicism that gives us tools for tranquillity and purpose. The insights are similar to those in Buddhism but without Eastern mythological trappings. The insights are also echoed in Christianity which was directly influenced by Stoicism. Many people today join sects and cults to achieve some measure of emotional healing. Stoicism can do the same without so much esoteric nonsense.

awesome
The author does a great job of introducing various Stoic concepts and how Stoic philosophers I interpreted these concepts, but I was not a fan of how the book was explained as it felt like listening a history textbook

great book
It is a great book, but do not expect a sudden relevation; if its yours first book in the subject, probably you will be disapointed, also if you have too much about it, is a great book if you are use to take principles and apply those to your life
