Helping me a lot

Any additional comments?

So far, so good. 1 week since i have had this book and i am seeing a marked improvement in my shyness and anxiety issues in social situations. Last night i even managed to go to a birthday party in a bar, where i had to arrive alone and great everyone and then make small chat all night to people i did and did not know. This may seem simple to a lot of people, but until last week this was very very tough for me.
I am hoping the advice I have got so far will last!

REALLY WORTH READING!!!

Any additional comments?

Einstein defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over while expecting a different result. Over and over I tried ignoring my anxiety and yelling at myself, but things weren't changing. Reading this book was something new for me and was well worth it. I was really surprised at how many times the book mentioned very specific thought patterns that were the exact same as my own. I think the book is written well and organized well and I feel like I have tools now to better recognize my anxiety and overcome it. This book is exactly what I needed.

Feels like it has given me a fresh start

Any additional comments?

As my review title says, I really feel this book has given me some sort of fresh start at life. The shyness and social anxiety that has held me back for so long…well it is not totally gone but it is definitely a lot less than it was.

It was nice to finally find a book that was easy to follow.

Recommended if you have issues with shyness or social anxiety. Listen with an open mind. It certainly helped me.

Any additional comments?

I was not entirely sure what to expect from this book, but i have to say i got so much more from it than i expected.

I liked that it was not all medical, I did not feel like I needed to be doctor to understand it!

Its an ongoing journey and it will take time but I am see massive improvements already.

Good narrator, easy to listen to, engaging without being annoying.

Your New Best Friend

Would you listen to Social Anxiety again? Why?

Absolutely! This book was a huge help for me, and I know many friends who would also benefit from what Dr. Alison shares. I want to know this book inside out so I too can offer the help that is sorely needed, and guide others through the same process of self-knowledge and acceptance.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Social Anxiety?

I loved how from the very start Dr. Alison refers to social anxiety as an actual health issue that takes medical care to overcome. She's the first person to call out the 'it's only in your head' saying as false and extremely harmful to someone who is dealing with this illness. To hear that acknowledged out loud was very refreshing.

What does Rebekah Amber Clark bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her voice is soothing, and that's very important with such a topic. To listen to her is calming, and one eventually feels at ease, as if talking to a friend. Generating that sort of comfort is crucial for someone to start working on their healing.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

"Pain is no more"

Any additional comments?

I hope this book finds all the people it needs to help. I will surely put it out there, recommend it online and to my friends. It has the potential to save someone's life and that must not be underestimated.

Great read!

What did you love best about Social Anxiety?

I liked the way the book offered practical advice to problems. Most of the solutions that the author recommended for the anxiety and panic attacks were very realistic. I have tried some of them and recommended to friends and all were really helpful.

I also liked the case studies that the audiobook used to make examples and drive home salient points. It made it really easy to relate with. Personally, I learn easier when there are clear examples so I really enjoyed the book.

Lastly, it appeals to everyone, not just shy people. The tips also work with people who are already comfortable socially and can help make them better conversationalists. This I think makes it a book everyone can learn from. There's a lot to glean from no matter what your personality is, shy or outgoing.

What does Rebekah Amber Clark bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her narrations is very engaging.

What did you learn from Social Anxiety that you would use in your daily life?

I learnt several ways to improve my self esteem and make better conversations. The part about making relationships and keeping them. Also about managing social media. It seems to be a major part of our lives now. Texts, twitter, Facebook, there is a lot of pressure to keep up appearances.

Nowadays, I take time to switch off for prolonged periods and not take everything too serious or let nasty comments get to me. If I don't like what you're posting or I'm getting negative vibes, I know I don't have to cope with it. I just unfollow them or block them. Life is easier that way.

Highly recommended to everyone. One of the best books on social anxiety I've read.

Very different.

Any additional comments?

I found this book different from a lot of the other books i had heard about social anxiety. Different in the way that it was very practical based and ultra-realistic. It felt modern and up to date and dealt with the world we live in today (not the 80's like most other social anxiety books are based in).

I found it effective and even enjoyable at time, as it had a nice flow to it and was very easy to understand and follow.

Completely Blown Away!

What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?

There are so many insightful ideas in this book, it's hard to choose just one! But I would have to say that the idea that really hit home for me (and made me realise that I had chosen the right book) was that when people say things are "just in your head", they are making you feel worse about your struggles. Jennifer Alison insists that what is "in your head" is actually very important. She explores this idea by likening it to placebo effect and explaining that the things that are in your head are at the very center of your being. Your struggles may be in your head, but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

Any additional comments?

The best thing about this book, is that it discusses things that are relevant to today's world, unlike some other books on the topic that are really dated and out of touch with reality. I really think that the sections on social anxiety in relation to social media and texting are so important for people today. I really can't recommend this book enough. So many people I know struggle with social anxiety and this book is a true miracle worker. Honestly, no matter what aspect of socialising you find difficult, you will find the answer in this book.
