Not of any use.

A very superficial explanation of and very technical subject with not explanations mean that it is of no use to the novice or those with some experience.

A beginner doesn't stand a chance.

Despite having a degree in a scientific subject, this 'beginner's guide' was incomprehensible to me in all but a few areas. The narrator rattled the book off with barely a pause. It was read as if the he didn't understand a word of what he was reading and just wanted to get the job done. The author and publisher must be very intelligent but not intelligent enough to see that this material is not going to be understood by a beginner to the subject.
