Publisher's Summary

Drawing on findings from leading health researchers as well as conversations with both chemical and organic farmers from coast to coast, Maria Rodale irrefutably outlines the unacceptably high cost of chemical farming on our health and our environment. She traces the genesis of chemical farming and the rise of the immense companies that profit from it, bringing to light the government's role in allowing such practices to flourish. She further explains that modern organic farming would not only help reverse climate change by reducing harmful carbon emissions and soil depletion, but would also improve the quality of the food we eat, reduce diseases from asthma to cancer, and ensure a better quality of life in farming communities nationwide.
For every parent wondering how best to safeguard the health and safety of her children; for every environmentalist in search of a solution to the worsening crisis that afflicts our land, air, and waters; for every shopper who questions whether it is worth it to pay more for organic, Maria Rodale offers straightforward answers and a single, definitive course of action: We must demand organic now.

those in power must read and work upon it.

I heard people talked about the organic farming and never realized that much effort to make it happen.

not worth the time.

no worthy storyline here. Just wants to slame certain 'groups' to get the reader all angered. Auther writting just to sound off about her own personal agenda at the expense of a hopefull reader. Nothing offered for the average person to do. Too bad I wasted $ on this.

I'm pro organic but this was just painful.

I really wanted to give this a better score than 1 out of 5 but couldn't bring myself to because the writing is so poor, as is the performance.

The factual information Maria Rodale covers in this book comes at the great cost of her repetitive prejudices against non-organic food and this is aimed especially at chemical farming. My understanding of organic food is good and she makes some very valid points which I fully agree with, however by withdrawing her easily to grasp opinions more often this audio book could have been less than an hour long. I did stick it out but as I said it was painful and reminded me of listening to an upset teenager repeating why he had a fight at school.

To end positively though I will be following up two things from her book; one is the link between the Nazis and pesticide manufacturers and two, the research she mentioned where tiny parts per million of pesticides are found to cause as much damage in the long term than higher dosages in the short term.

Thanks for reading.
