Publisher's summary

Understand the introvert within you and position yourself for success.

I'm shy. I make excuses - even lie - to avoid certain social situations. I've been called anti-social, awkward, and odd. The way I behave doesn't feel unnatural, but I'm constantly being told it is. I'm afraid of confrontation and disagreement. I lack confidence in my abilities, I'm reluctant to defend myself, and I get taken advantage of by others...a lot. And worst of all, I don't know why. That was me, before writing this book. If it sounds familiar, then it's time for you to take action to eliminate the negativity. Why are you the way that you are? The answers are inside.

Here is a preview of what you'll learn:

  • The definition of "introvert"
  • Genetic differences between introverts and extraverts
  • Why and how introverts think differently
  • Is an introvert's unhappiness "real," or is it merely a reflection of living in an extraverted world?
  • Common characteristics of successful introverts
  • How to win in an extravert's world
  • How to embrace introversion and use it to your advantage

Behind every "why" is a "because." Don't let ignorance prevent you from reaching your full potential. Start learning why you are who you are now, and make today day one of the new you.

Insight Into the Introvert Personality

Introvert was a good, informative listen although it was a little dry. There was great insight into what makes the introvert, as opposed to the extravert, tick. I think the introvert is the personality type that gets confused the most with other types such as narcissism. This book does touch base on the narcissist type. I think this is a good book for the person that wants to learn more about themselves if they think they may be introverts and on the other side of the coin, the person who wants to understand them.

Sheree Wichard does a nice job narrating this book. She speaks clearly and slowly making the book easy to follow. Her pacing is perfect; not too slow, not too fast. An overall good study into the introvert personality type.

Excellent look...at myself

After listening to a quick sample of this book I was hooked: "Hey, that's me!" was my response. So I got the book...and I was not disappointed.

First off, this is a book everyone would benefit listening to. Why?
1. It is short--you can listen to this in one or two sittings.
2. It is relevant; you are either an introvert or you know those that are. You will benefit from understanding others and/or yourself much better.

So buy this book! You may just discover that you are not the only person that insists on keeping his/her office door closed, that uses sound cancelling headphones, that hates change, or that has a very, VERY difficult time in social settings. I especially appreciate the discussion as to how we are not one way or the other (introvert or extrovert) but somewhere along the pendulum of the two. And that the pendulum can move; we may be one way when we are young and another when we are old.

I may just listen to this one again. Awesome job! Again, I am no psychologist and my days of Psychologist 101 were long before any of my students were even born, but as a historian....awesome job!

Interesting insights into the introvert's plight.

I enjoyed this audiobook. Got a few new insights into my wife's temperament.

I guess I was not fully aware (or convinced) that there is indeed a full scale war on introverts.

This would be an interesting listen for anyone who needs some encouragement in an extrovert's world, or for the extrovert who is trying to foster a sense of extrovert guilt.

All in all. This was worth listening to. The narration was great.

Not too special

This book is alright if you want a broad overview of the current state of the research being done on introversion. Not a good reference if you want specific information. If you already know a bit about introverts, then this book won't be much help. I suggest reading Quiet instead.

Brief but useful

This books is a brief overview of what "introversion" is, how common it is and what it means for both those people that have it and those around them. As it mentions in the introduction there have been a plethora of books on this subject in the last few years, with Susan Cain's "Quiet" being the most well known. I myself have read a few.

This book somewhat sets itself apart in two ways - it cuts out all the dross and examples and anecdotes and just leaves the discussion around the facts there, as well as providing a researched 'meta analysis' of a whole lot of previous scientific studies. It's not a personal book of the authors experience. but a distillation of dozens of other studies and analysis into a quick read.

The book blurb has a like of first person discussion "I am shy" etc, but the book does not actually contain any personal anecdotes or first person discussion. It is more report / analysis / essay style rather than personal discussion.

The book also, in opening and closing, mentions that it is "Volume 1". This is not mentioned anywhere else in the title, description etc and it's not actually clear as to what might be in subsequent volumes as this does cover (although not in great depth) everything you would expect.

Narration by Sheree Wichard is clear and easy to follow. Well paced and engaging. Made the listen an enjoyable experience.

I loved it, my brother loved it, and my son loved

TARGET AUDIENCE: Anyone interested in understanding their introverted friend, sweetheart, or acquaintance.

CONTENT: Most individuals with introversion already know this information intuitively, but it is nice to be able to share with our sweethearts and friends so that they understand why we sometimes act the way we do. This book is the kind of book that I would like to give to friends in my life.

NARRATOR: Great job narrating this book. It was easy to listen to.

OVERALL: I loved it, my brother loved it, and my son loved it!

Excellent

Any additional comments?

This book describes me to a T. I am very much an introvert and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The book is relatively short, but it was still a great book.

A little too technical for me

What did you like best about Introvert? What did you like least?

I identified with what I could understand. Things kept getting repeated.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

If the author could've brought the explanations down to a level that anyone could understand. I have some college education but even some of the stuff went over my head.

Have you listened to any of Sheree Wichard’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No
