Terrible

The narrator sounded like he was electronic. The content was not helpful at all.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Little scientific backing cited and largely subjective generalisations. However, Chapter 14 onwards is a preview on a new book by the same author about verbal and emotional abuse in relationships - this very short preview offers possible explanations behind personality disorders (including NPD) which I think would have been a welcome addition to this title.

Has Help! I'm in Love with a Narcissist turned you off from other books in this genre?

no

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narration is overly dramatic and this trivialises the subject matter. The narrator doesn’t seem emotionally invested in the book and this detachment to the content shows through incongruent intonation etc. He sounds a lot like a television news broadcaster.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Help! I'm in Love with a Narcissist?

The first three chapters - disclaimers are tedious and lengthy.

Any additional comments?

Offers little advice regarding a solution except ‘leave the relationship.’ or in the case that the reader themselves is a narcissist, simply ’Stop being a narcissist!’ which I found hilarious, if nothing else! No detail on how this can be achieved. People who are in love with narcissists know they should leave - it’s actually doing it that is the difficult thing.

Totally Inaccurate!

Do yourself a favor, and please don't buy this book! It's not accurate information at all. It says in this book that a narcissist can change. This is extremely misleading information--because countless studies show that narcissist/sociopaths/psychopaths actually have brains that are physically different from that of other people. For this reason, narcissists and people with category B personality disorders are largely incapable of feeling compassion--which means they basically don't have a conscience. Studies show that narcissists usually don't change--soo don't hold your breath! Only in extremely light forms of narcissism can an abuser actually show slight improvement--and this is with a great deal of effort from the supporting side--it's almost not worth the effort and on top of this, relapses into extremely selfish behaviors are frequent and even full regression is possible when confronted by life stress. All in all--I found this book very disappointing. "Healing From Hidden Abuse" was the best book I've read on this subject.
