Publisher's summary

Have you wondered if it is possible to stop intense feelings of worry, anxiety, or depression without resorting to medication? Most depression-related medication can have a series of harmful side effects that sometimes leave patients in an even worse state than before. Cognitive behavioral therapy has been one of the most successful methods of treating and eliminating depression, anxiety, and negative thought patterns with little to virtually no side effects.

Here's some of what you can expect to learn inside this audiobook:

  • Exactly how to dismantle the most damaging automatic thoughts
  • How to develop a solid foundation of core beliefs so that external factors have little negative impact on the way you think
  • Learn how to take in situations with a more positive perspective and make it a long-term habit
  • How to avoid the most common CBT mistakes that can greatly hinder your progress towards recovery
  • Proven methods to relax your mind and body and disrupt stress and depression patterns

Other than following the advice inside this guide, no previous skill or specific knowledge is required to get started with CBT. There is a large amount of CBT practitioners that have learned how to harness emotions and thoughts to rewire the way their mind works for good. Unlike depression or anxiety medication, the CBT principles will reward you with long-lasting results when correctly applied to your life. There is no better time to start the journey towards a healthier mind and body. Start by practicing CBT today!

Very great book

I have several family members that suffer from depression and severe negative thoughts and this was an amazing resource. This was written so anyone that has any type of interest in Psychology can read, understand, and learn from. I cannot wait to read more books from this author.

Got some great suggestions

CBT is good to know if you suffer anxiety, especially if you don't want to take medications, or your medications aren't really working. I have always heart of people talking about cognitive behavioral therapy, but I never knew exactly what it was, so this book really helped me understand more about it. I'd say it is well describe and easy to understand, and it gives some suggestions on how to go about retraining your mind. Though this book didn't specifically suggest this, I am planning to incorporate Bible verse memorization and scripture meditation as a strategy. It has other ideas in it that I personally wouldn't use, but you can really use anything you like to retrain your brain. Anything that motivates, uplifts, and inspires. This book has helped me to understand more about CBT, and I plan on exploring and looking more into it.

Gives great suggestions

I really like this book and the suggestions it gives in helping you to change your mindset. I suffer from severe anxiety and listening this has given me a few different ideas and techniques in helping me to identify my obstacles, take better control of my thoughts, and be successful in taking back control over my life. I think the workbook portion is a huge bonus too because it truly helped me in identifying issues that were contributing factors that I hadn't even considered before.

Very easy to listen

I work in the mental health field and have had training on CBT and seen the results of this type of therapy. I found the book to be very easy to listen and understandable. If a person cannot (or will not) attend therapy in person this seems like the next best thing, especially if the depression and/or anxiety is not already too debilitating. Some people will need the professional help. If someone you love would benefit from CBT then you should listen this book as well.

Very effective therapy

I've had my fair share of depression and anxiety in life and although I've never seen a therapist I've always looked for books on the subject as well as other psychological listens to better understand the subject. The phrase that caught my eye with this was "..learn to be your own therapist". As I've had family that has suffered from the same, I also realize that it can be beneficial in understanding loved ones and the struggles they are going through. Retrain Your Brain does a nice job of breaking down CBT and its background as well as identifying the different types of anxiety and depression so that you can work to alleviate them. The workbook format is very engaging and the examples bring the points to life very effectively.

Learned a lot from this book

I currently at 10 and a CBT group and I wanted to listen this book to see if it was going to be just as effective as going to a group that I have not learned a heck of a lot from. And so far I see some things in here about how to control your stress, anxiety, and depression along with the understanding that what fritters is for I like about this book did get a few breakdown the negative thought pattern to turn it into something positive and also helps you think about your core beliefs facing your fears and so much more I actually learned a lot from this book.

Provides great techniques

The techniques described in this book are very natural. Basically, it aims to train the listener on different ways and techniques to redirect our thinking to more positive and constructive habits. By identifying problems, setting goals and overcoming obstacles cognitive behavioral science can benefit nearly everyone. The book teaches you to challenge your thoughts and beliefs, and how to act on ways that are congruent with your new thought patterns. The book had plenty of beautiful examples to help guide the listener through difficult concepts. I noticed a couple of misspelled words, but they didn't disrupt the flow of the book. Overall I would give this book 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it to all.

Great book for self-aware

The disclaimer on should not be overlooked: "Attention! If you are suffering from serious depression, having thoughts of hurting yourself, or experiencing other major mental health issues, call a psychologist, psychiatrist, or other mental health professional." This is a great book for self-aware individuals who are mildly struggling with certain obstacles, and not for the seriously ill. As a workbook, the exercises are helpful and well presented. but it will get you to think differently.
