Publisher's summary

Mirror World is stirring, about to embrace the new global changes of its map.

Everyone is getting ready to colonize No-Man's Lands. The strongest clans send their best fighters on recon missions, impatient to make stakes for the juiciest locations.

Market prices have taken to the sky like flocks of scared pigeons. New alliances are struck while mercenaries upgrade their armor and grind edges on their swords. Their time is looming.

A war is coming to Mirror World.

Olgerd, too, is getting ready, a new goal already in his sights. The ancient Ennan City awaits him.

All he needs to do now is gain some strength.

From Grinding to Combat

At first all Oleg wanted to do is to make enough money to pay for his daughter’s medical bills but fate and “Mirror World,” have given him another destiny. Oleg has put down his mining pick and picked up a sling shot as things in ”Mirror World,” have suddenly changed. The No-Man’s land has become the center of attention and clans are sending their best fighters to begin colonization. Oleg is no longer a grinder and has changed classifications as a new destiny waits. He and his pets need to level up and get their teeth in order to be ready for the upcoming battles as the Ennan city is waiting.
I like the change of pace in this series and am looking forward to the next book; can’t get enough of these LITRPG stories.

sooooo....slow and boring

I just don't get the high rating for this book. I could not even bring myself to finish this one....incredibly slow...and dull. and the part where he felt so strongly for the suffering of the creature being attacked by the little goblins. ....the whole time I was thinking..it's just a video game....nothing is actually suffering. so lame.

Much better than 2nd book. Almost as good as 1st.

After being deeply disappointed by the second book poor plot line and irrational decisions. I only bought Outcast as a final try before placing this author as a one book fluke. The beginning is a little hard to accept. How this character can not research or learn anything that is common knowledge for a gamer. Or rather given the simple motivation that his daughter's life is attached to him playing well, he is too ignorant of basic knowledge. Constantly in the second book and first part of this book, he does not research or learn some basic relevant gaming practices or knowledge... In addition, his constant moaning and whining makes his character painfully unlikable. But finally he goes on his quests and the story gets a lot better and less about his inner monologue and paranoid nature.

The real excitement begins

Book 3 is where Alexey Osadchuk starts to make Olgerd, the MC, into someone who is a warrior engineer, of sorts, and can gain levels and skills. The progression system is somewhat vague, mostly needing to defeat an opponents at a higher level. Still, his progression is very well written in that he ends up dying in the beginning phases due to ill-preparedness and being gullible. Then, learning from his mistakes and the stress at having to advance quickly to pay-off his debt, he adapts as he must, using his arsenal of skills and tools to increase his offense using inventive force-multiplier solutions.

The author still strays into long exposition phases which tends to slow the pace but not terribly so.

I enjoyed the book and intend to continue on with Book 4 of the series.

mediocre story

I think some things didn't get translated very well, like the difference between zombies and skeletons, they seem to be used interchangeably here. Also abbreviating his character as "Ch-R" has become grating to my ears.

Apart from those issues, the story just isn't engaging. we're already on book 3 and it feels like the first of a series, no real direction or accomplishments towards some larger polt.

I would recommend ending the series after book 1-2. Personally, I'll not be going on too the next.

Great series

Oddly enough, as good as the whole series has been (and to be honest, I didn't have much hope for it when I first started reading Daily Grind), one of the most interesting aspects has been due to this being an English translation from a Russian original work. There are all kinds of little variations of common sayings, like "don't sell the bear skin before it's been killed" instead of "don't count your chickens before they're hatched" Really enjoying these little differences, glad I was wrong about how good this would turn out.
