Publisher's summary

It's 2105 and Cray has a killer life - literally. He spends every night hunting zombies to keep everyone else in New York safe. Of course he's alone, had a dysfunctional childhood, and could die at any moment, but that's not so bad. Right?

After all, thanks to his tireless efforts and the efforts of the other Night Sweepers, society has a fighting chance of recovering from the zombie apocalypse and being normal again.

Enter Jonathan Harbin, the son of the psychopath that made the virus that created the zombie horde. Emerging from obscurity, he claims to have created a new strain that could decimate the remaining populace of the planet. Suddenly everything Cray has fought for could be gone overnight. There's only one solution: Harbin has to go away. To do this, he's going to have to join forces with the stunning Mira Winston, a government agent with dark secrets of her own.

Thus begins a dangerous infiltration that will lead him to terrifying revelations and the brink of death. He will quickly learn his society is not what it seems, and that he's more connected to Harbin than he could ever have imagined.

Zombies And So Much More!

Zombie Apocalypse was an intriguing story with multiple twist that separates it from other zombie stories. The book moves at a steady pace, and has exceptional characters liked Cray and Mira. I love how a relationship grows between the two of them, while their mission takes them deeper into danger. Cray and Mira uncover many secretes that will affect them personally, and face dangers far worse than the "festers" Cray usually takes out.

John Pirhalla has a great voice, and does a good job on the narration. The characters are easily distinguishable, and have their own voice.

Excellent start to a fun series.

Would you listen to Zombie Apocalypse Aftermath: The Night Sweeper again? Why?

Yes. Initially when the book start I was not impress with the opening story. So I was kind of tuned out until Cray opened up about his life. The story then took off for me.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Mira. She is just a no nonsense kick ass zombie killer.

What about John Pirhalla’s performance did you like?

I thought John Pirhalla did a pretty good job narrating the different character voices. The honest truth, it was because of his narration that kept me listening to the story, and I am so very glad I did.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, when Cray opened up about his young life and how his father treated him.

Any additional comments?

I am so glad I stuck with the book. Like I mentioned before the opening scene of the story did not catch my attention right away. I was very close to not finishing this book but the narrator kept me going. And I am glad I did. If you like the Zombie genre then this is definitely a good read. Can't wait for the next book.

Superhuman Zombie Hunter Meets his Match

Nice twist on the popular Zombie Apocalypse. The infected are neither slow nor dead, but fast and deadly. Although there were some unbelievable parts, such as one hunter who protects the entire city of New York, I enjoyed the book overall. The book contained no graphic sexual scenes or profanity, making it appropriate for teens to read. I was unsure that I would enjoy the book as it was difficult to get into, but by the end of the book I was enjoying it. Looking forward to the next book.

Tons of action and a lot mystery!

Would you consider the audio edition of Zombie Apocalypse Aftermath: The Night Sweeper to be better than the print version?

-----

What other book might you compare Zombie Apocalypse Aftermath: The Night Sweeper to and why?

Maybe the Partials series by Dan Wells. It shares that dystopian-genetically engineered vibe with this book.

Which character – as performed by John Pirhalla – was your favorite?

I love Cray's super awkward side with girls. It's so funny to read

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Towards the end after they got back from the mission. I kind of didn't expect that betrayal.

Any additional comments?

I was kind of skeptical going in. Zombie apocalypse books are typically a hit or miss thing. Either they are pretty good or pretty bad. I really enjoyed this one. It's not cliche and it does have all of the components of a good book. I love how you get answers for {some} of your questions. Some Authors are so keen on making you wait it out, but he got right to the point. I love the kick-assery that goes on, especially female kick-assery. The ending was the cliffhanger of all cliffhangers, but i knew it was going to happen! I had a feeling a certain someone wasn't really dead. I wish the other book was on Audible, but i will just have to get the other one ebook version. I would really like to see what happens with these characters! All in all, a pretty decent book!

Zombie "virus" with a twist and plenty of genetic engineering mixed in

The story is classic mad scientist creates zombie virus. It has some new twists to this classic storyline. Plenty of genetic engineering and mutates. Love interests, zombie killing, human greed and more. Well written and
Well told from dual points of view switching throughout the story between the views of two main characters. I enjoyed and look forward to the rest. I received this audiobook from the author narrator or publisher for free via audiobookboom in exchange for an unbiased review

Zombies and Mutants

Cray is a night sweeper, a zombie hunter famous in New York for his skill in combating the hordes that would infest New York. He also has some serious baggage thanks to a mom who died during the early days of the epidemic and a father who calls him a freak and doesn't speak to him now. But Cray has made his way. He's got a decent life, good rooms and a man he thinks of as a father. That all changes the day he learns there may be a cure to the disease that created the zombie apocalypse. The day he meets Mira.

I liked Cray. He is definitely a flawed hero who is constantly second guessing himself especially when it comes to Mira Winston. She is more than a match for him and proves it as they fight to secure the cure they are hearing rumors of. Cray finds out more and more about himself as they travel and finally begins to piece together who he is. Can he embrace it without losing his mind?

I enjoyed the narration by John Pirhalla. He is not great with the female voices but good enough to where it wasn't distracting for me. And the rest was well done. I did speed it up to 1.5 and this seemed a nice speed for Pirhalla's pace.

Different, in the best way!

I am a true fan of zombie horror, so I was expecting much the same as the usual books in the genre. To my surprise, this was a refreshing diversion from the norm.

In this Zombie apocalypse, a vast majority of the world has been infected with a virus (ok, well that part is the same), but instead of the virus killing them, it causes them to behave like wild animals and get festering sores all over their body. While they aren't technically dead, they are still dangerous and protocol is to kill them on sight. Enter our hero, Cray. He is a sweeper; a hunter who prowls the New York City nights dispatching the zombies (festers) to keep everyone else safe.

This book is less about the zombies, though, than it is about the loner, Cray. He is sent on a mission with a kick-ass female partner, Mira, where they discover secrets about themselves, the government, and those they care about. The characters themselves are well-developed and you find yourself sucked into their stories as the book is written in dual perspective. The narrator did an excellent job bringing the book to life. I enjoyed listening to his smooth voice, but I kind of wish they had chosen a female narrator for Mira's parts. Would have been an interesting shift from person to person.

I was gifted this audio book via AudioBookBoom in exchange for my honest review, and here is my honest opinion: Read it! You won't be disappointed! There is plenty of action, a little romance, and a gripping story that keeps you guessing what comes next. I can't wait to read book #2!

Loved This Story and the Characters

"Zombie Apocalypse Aftermath" was such a great listen and I can't wait until book 2 comes out. This wasn't the typical zombie/apocalyptic story. It was quite different. The ones infected are the festers. The real story is the well-fleshed out characters of Cray and Mira. I loved her character as she is a bad ass. Then enter Alana.
J. Steven Butler did a fantastic job penning this story. I think this is going to be a series not to be missed.

John Pirhalla's voice was amazing. He captured the feel of the story and the tone of the characters very, very well. I thought he did an exceptional job as Archer. All the characters were distinguishable and memorable. This was a perfect match of author/reader.
