Publisher's Summary

"Things like crowns had a troublesome effect on clever folks; it was best to leave all the reigning to the kind of people whose eyebrows met in the middle." Three witches gathered on a lonely heath. A king has been cruelly murdered, his throne usurped by his ambitious cousin. A child heir and the crown of the kingdom are both missing. The omens are not auspicious for the new incumbent, for whom ascending this tainted throne is a more complicated affair than you might imagine - particularly when the blood on your hands just won't wash off, and you're facing a future with knives in it.

Critic Reviews

"One of the pleasures of the book is the way in which literary classics float effortlessly through them in a way that would be pounced on as inter-textual in another author but is never allowed to become strident or alienating in Pratchett's work." (Guardian)

Great Book - Appaling Narration

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I have listened to, and greatly enjoyed, the Discworld books to date; and would have done so here if the narrations had been of the standard of the others. It is not, it is so poor that the book is grossly undermined. I'd happily buy it again if a competent narrator were given it to do-over.

Not as good a story as the unabridged version.

Would you try another book written by Terry Pratchett or narrated by Tony Robinson?

Yes, Tony Robinson is a good choice, he does very different voices for each character which suits them well. He uses his vast acting skills to really bring them alive.

Would you be willing to try another book from Terry Pratchett? Why or why not?

Yes, the man is a genius and I have never read a dud book by TP.

Which character – as performed by Tony Robinson – was your favourite?

Nanny Ogg.

Any additional comments?

Tony Robinson should have done the unabridged version.
