A personal favourite

As with all of David Gemmell's books the characters in Waylander are colourful and fully fleshed out. The overriding plot is essentially straightforwards, but the Author is still able to work in some clever twists and turns. This is one audio book that I will listen too again in the future ... a credit well spent.

amazing. It's all I need to say.

it would seem i need to say more or it won't let me say anything. Well worth buying and will be a book I'll listen to a lot. I have read all of his work and now am really happy I can listen to them at work or when walking the dog or even just sitting. It's sad that he died to soon and we will never get a new work from an author I love above all others.

Another Helping of Gorgeous Gemmell

I have pretty much gorged on three of these in the short time since Audible made them available. I think I've pretty much said all I can about them in general in my reviews of Legend and The King Beyond the Gate. In the 80s they were pure gold and even if fantasy has gained a level of sophistication since then they are still wonderful tales. Yes they have certain similarities but I think this is possibly the best of them. It's very direct and having read the above two it was fascinating to fill in some of the legends like the origin of The Thirty and how the legendary fortress of Dros Delnoch came about.

Most of all though they are just great fun. Waylander is an excellent character and there is a lot of clever action. Sean Barrett was born to read fantasy novels and he works hand in glove with Gemmell's text. In addition the afterwords written by David himself are fascinating little insights to the writing process. In this case it all sounds decidedly naive but for those of us that have grown up holding this author in real affection it's also a nice little window into the life that produced these great stories. And I might say naive but if it was then it was gloriously naive as the resulting tale of Waylander ably demonstrates . . .
