Publisher's summary

The Emperor's vision of mankind ascendant lies in tatters. The Great Crusade is naught but a fading memory.

The dream of Unity is no more. But with Horus' rebellion spreading to every corner of the Imperium and war engulfing new worlds and systems almost daily, there are some who now ask: were the signs there to be seen all along?

In these dark times, only one thing is certain - the galaxy will never know peace again, not in this lifetime or a thousand others....

Full list of authors includes James Swallow, Nick Kyme, Chris Wraight, Rob Sanders and Andy Smillie.

Another Anthology

At first I loved these anthologies. One anthology for nine normal books is a great ratio, and a fun way to mix it up. But starting in the mid 20s of the Horus Heresy it turned into one anthology for three books. And a ton of it feels like filler by bottom tier sci-fi authors.

One note specific to this largely lackluster collection. Chirurgeon, by Nick Kyme, is the worst of the bunch. Not because of the writing, but because Ian Brooker as Fabius Bile is the worst fucking thing I have ever heard. He does it as a stereotypical mad scientist voice, but one that is so over the top a Saturday morning cartoon would have cut it for being excessive. I've listened to dozens, if not hundreds, of hours of Horus Heresy anthologies and this was the first one I had to skip.

i hate the books of short stories

I really wish they would label these as books of short stories instead of a title like War without in so that way I do not waste a credit on a book of excerpts from other Horus heresy books.

Great!

I'm an easily entertained person and I loved every short story in here, from Fabius Bile to "Madam Ghostsnake"

Definitely the best anthology so far

honestly the last anthology I remember listening to in this series was not the best. This one was fantastic. I love hearing stories about known but less prominent characters. Great book!

Another solid anthology

This is the first Anthology where it feels like we’re telling stories of the Heresy in motion, rather than the before or becoming. Quite scattered, but enjoyable nonetheless.

No stakes

My least favorite HH novel. some stories are good like the one with Morty but overall the stories drag on and they don't add anything to the HH overall. Was a struggle to get through.

I'm not a fan of the anthologies

everything was fine and some of the stories did have nice Easter eggs and reveals as you would expect. I can't recall any of the stories being so mind-numbing that I couldn't get through them.

with that being said I just struggled to get into these anthologies. I prefer the single long form storyline

Filler book

Nothing really happens in the story arc. This is passable. Some stories are ok. Others plain boring and irrelevant.

Collection of short stories

Good continuation of a bunch of short stories from previous books. only complaint is that these collection or short stories are becoming more frequent in the horous heresy collection as a whole.
