Publisher's summary

Dissolute nobles, master spies, and the unlikeliest of heroes, Alec and Seregil have survived exile, treachery, and black magic. But the road that lies ahead is the most hazardous theyve ever traveled. For with enemies on all sides, they must walk a narrow path between good and evil where one misstep might be their last.

Having escaped death and slavery in Plenimar, Alec and Seregil want nothing more than to go back to their nightrunning life in Rhminee. Instead they find themselves saddled with Sebrahn, a strange, alchemically created creaturethe prophesied child of no woman. Its moon-white skin and frightening powers make Sebrahn a danger to all whom Alec and Seregil come into contact with, leaving them no choice but to learn more about Sebrahns true nature. With the help of trusted friends and Seregils clan, the duo set out to discover the truth about this living homunculusa journey that can lead only to danger or death. For Seregils old nemesis Ulan Sathil of Virsse and Alecs own long-lost kin are after them, intent on possessing both Alec and Sebrahn. On the run and hunted, Alec and his comrades must fight against time to accomplish their most personal mission ever.

A Note From Author Lynn Flewelling

Dear Listeners,

It's been brought to my attention that there is some confusion over the noticeable difference in some of the pronunciations between the first three books of this series, and the last two. The reason for this is quite simple. For Shadows Return and The White Road, I had the pleasure of talking in considerable detail with narrator Adam Danoff. So the differences from the first three books may be a bit jarring at first, but what you will hear in Shadows Return and The White Road are the proper pronunciations of names and things, as the author intended. I'm delighted with these new interpretations, and I hope you will be, too. Happy listening!

This was a much better follow up

The plot Ark. Was settled to a satisfactory conclusion. The characters felt more at ease with prior books in the series to their natures. The over all the fall aji also seems to lineup better. I'm hoping that Alex child will be seen again in a future book as he remains an interesting character inspiration

Narration is different but not bad

I read the reviews that bashed the new narrator but I like him. Yes, he pronounces things differently, including names and places, but it is not that big of a deal. The more youthful voice fits the main characters better since they are still young. Give it a try, it's is a GREAT series

Great Story

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed this book, it almost would stand alone, but I enjoyed the whole series and recommend it.

Off the path a bit

I think that this book drifts a bit away from the formula that makes the others of the Nightrunner Series so much fun to read. Our heroes are somewhat out of the environment that I am used to them being in, so it wasn't as much fun for me, however as always, well written. I'm looking forward to Casket of Souls being released...

The saga continues in exciting and touching ways

Like Shadows Return, The White Road moves the Nightrunner series along, but in unexpected and interesting ways. This volume again departs from the fantasy intrigue and guile, to a large extent, that drew me into the first three volumes, but does return to an unusual and occasionally light-hearted, if more often poignant, exploration of the world-setting that kept me fascinated.

Lynn Flewelling, more than any other fantasy author I've recently sampled, explores new twists on old fantasy themes and offers new ideas and explorations that I don't always expect, which keeps the whole series feeling new and intriguing. I encourage you to keep reading this series.

Adam Danoff does a marvelous job conveying the characters and the sense of the saga.

The narrator may have gotten better in this book.

The audiobook narrator may have gotten better in this book, but I may also be becoming resigned to his voice since I love the series so much.

I enjoy Flewelling

Any additional comments?

This is the fifth book in the series, and I found it pretty good. The first 4 were exceptional.I found this story not as good as the others, but it did bring one part of the adventure to a conclusion. I am looking forward to the Sixth book, hoping that it will give more adventure like that in the first three books.

Love this narrator.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, definitely. Narration was great. Adam did a great job with the characters and unlike other narrators, didn't sound bored while narrating the story. It felt like he was just beside you, telling you a cool tale and not like someone just reading a script and sounding like he just wants to get this over with like some narrators I've come across while listening to samples. I have Books 4 to 7 in audio format. The only reason I haven't gotten the first three is because I didn't really like the narrator.... I wish they'd re-do the first trilogy and het Adam Danoff' to do the narration. Until then, I'll stick to my paperback copies of those books.

What did you like best about this story?

It was faster-paced than Traitor's Moon and Shadow's Return which I liked. It also introduced new faie characters that I liked. It was nice seeing the Hazadrielfaie.

Which scene was your favorite?

The standoff at the abandoned cabin. I thought that was a great moment, the guys facing off an army with hardly any weapons.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Oh yes. Again, mostly due to Adam Danoff. I really like his voice. I thought listening to this right before bed would help me nod off, but I ended up staying up even later because I kept wanting to listen to just one more chapter.

Any additional comments?

I wish they would do a re-recording of the first trilogy :(

Another great addition to the series!

I adore this series & enjoyed where this story took me! I was glad to see it continued nicely from where the last book left off and had a very satisfying conclusion! I do wish we’d learned more about Alecs’ father and some of the mysteries surrounding him… but there’s two more books worth of things to discover!
