Publisher's Summary

“I’m one of those monsters nobody believes in." If only they did! One minute he’s a soldier in Vietnam - the next, a vampire on a bloody rampage through the troops. Caught between a human who can bend him to his will and a lovely night stalker who tempts him to freedom, he begins a quest that spans two centuries and takes him from Saigon to the moons of Saturn. His life becomes an adventure packed with car chases, Russian agents, bank heists, assassinations, robots, even a spacewalk - not to mention a passionate love affair...and gallons of every vampire’s favorite drink.
Author Jim Hull brings to the genre a dash of spy thriller, a dollop of detective noir, and a dose of science fiction. It’s a tale that’s sardonic, hardboiled and heartwrenching.

Critic Reviews

"Hull has something new to say about a topic that we reasonably assumed had been exhausted, and he manages the even more extraordinary accomplishment in saying it in a glorious, voluptuous manner.” (Larry Wilson)
“It will appeal to anybody who enjoys vampire books...I did not want it to end!” (Kaydee McKinney)

extremely enjoyable

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. If you like fantasy you'll love this book.I could not put it down. Fast pace, well written script. Well read.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Vampire in Free Fall?

When he met the female vampire again after shipping her to america. She crying. Telling him how awful it was being uprooted.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Sometimes he seemed slow compared to the pace of the book. Just needed to be a little bit more animated. Not too much though. I do like listening to his type of voice. It soothes me and contribute to a very relaxing and memorable listening experience.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No. I thought it was excellent but way too short.

Any additional comments?

This book was worth it. You cannot go wrong buying it.

Good tale worth its money

Vampire in Freefall was a good listen. I do have a few constructive things to say but I don't want them to take away from what I consider a good story.

The story starts with our main character as a soldier in Vietnam and the first few chapter are set in that war zone. I enjoyed the development of the story through the ongoing decades.

The author, Jim Hull, narrated the book himself and although he did an acceptable job he did not have the range of other narrators who are able to provide voices to distinguish between characters.

In my opinion there were too many chapters. I don't mean the story needed to shortened but some chapters were far too short and should have been combined with others. There were over fifty chapters when I think they could have been combined to twentysix or thirty at the most.

I also feel that this one book could easily have been expanded in to three or four books by developing the story lines. We jumped decades mentioning various covert missions which could have developed in to major storylines. Later in the book we jump about one hundred and fifty to two hundred years when we meet the love interest again. Once again he mentions incidents, particularly the mining disaster that should have been expanded upon.

This a book I will listen to again and would recommend to friends. I just feel sad that this story is unlike to be developed, too much was covered and not developed. Good listen and worth it's money.
