Critic reviews

"Frightening, sensual.... Anne Rice will live on through the ages of literature.... To read her is to become giddy as if spinning through the mind of time, to become lightheaded as if our blood is slowly being drained away." ( San Francisco Chronicle)

Featured Article: The Best Audiobook Series of All Time by Genre

What makes a good audiobook series? There are as many answers to this question as there are listeners. For some, it might be epic battles. For others, it might be ongoing romantic twists and tensions. For still others, it might be elongated character studies or an in-depth analysis of a particular time and place. But the universal element of a truly great series is that it sticks with you long after the last word. These are our favorites from every major genre.

Still whining, Lestat?

I first tried to read this book 15 years ago after loving Anne Rice’s “Interview with the Vampire.” However, this book was a chore due to the extreme dislike I felt for Lestat. It’s all about him and his perception of everything. Back then, I didn’t get more than halfway through his story. Finally, Thanks to Simon Vance’s performance in the audio book, I am now able to say that I have finished this story. I still greatly dislike Lestat, but at least I understand him better. The part that occurs after he leaves France has the most character development and story progression, but that is the second half of the book... So prepare to muddle through his human life and resistance to detaching from it, because that is what makes him insufferable. I can definitely say that Lestat makes a much better vampire than a human. I look forward to listening to Simon Vance’s performance in the rest of the vampire chronicles.

Great narrator for my favorite vampire

Well worth a listen :) Simon does a great job, and his narration is paired well with the awesome backstory of Lestat

Loved the book, love the audio!

LONG-time lover of the book, so I was a bit wary of who would "play" the larger-than-life character of Lestat. I was most pleasantly surprised; the narrator was not only perfect as Lestat, but he was able, with subtle voice changes & accents, to bring all the richly drawn characters to life. MOST ENJOYABLE!
