Publisher's summary

From master storyteller and New York Times-bestseller Tad Williams comes the second book in the landmark epic fantasy saga of Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn.

Tad Williams introduced audiences to the incredible fantasy world of Osten Ard in his internationally bestselling series Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn. The trilogy inspired a generation of modern fantasy writers, including George R.R. Martin, Patrick Rothfuss, and Christopher Paolini, and defined Tad Williams as one of the most important fantasy writers of our time.

BOOK TWO: STONE OF FAREWELL

It is a time of darkness, dread, and ultimate testing for the realm of Osten Ard, for the wild magic and terrifying minions of the undead Sithi ruler, Ineluki the Storm King, are spreading their seemingly undefeatable evil across the kingdom.

With the very land blighted by the power of Ineluki’s wrath, the tattered remnants of a once-proud human army flee in search of a last sanctuary and rallying point—the Stone of Farewell, a place shrouded in mystery and ancient sorrow.

An even as Prince Josua seeks to rally his scattered forces, Simon and the surviving members of the League of the Scroll are desperately struggling to discover the truth behind an almost-forgotten legend, which will take them from the fallen citadels of humans to the secret heartland of the Sithi—where near-immortals must at last decide whether to ally with the race of men in a final war against those of their own blood.

After the landmark Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn trilogy, the epic saga of Osten Ard continues with The Heart of What Was Lost. Then don’t miss the sequel trilogy, The Last King of Osten Ard, beginning with The Witchwood Crown!

Better than the first...

I just finished the series and it's good. It is well written with an outstanding performance by Andrew Wincott. But oh is this a slow burn.

Book1 *** Nothing happened in the first book except the last 2 hours. A really slow burn.

Book 2 *** The story final kicks off, but I began to not care about some of the characters.

Book 3 *** Finally a book work listening too, but wow it is long at over 60 hours. Still some slower parts but the plot moves and Tad sticks the ending.

So, if your not a patient listener I highly recommend you move this down TBR queue,

Got tired of it...

I forced myself to listen to the first book, but just could not with this one. It bounced around to the different groups to try to keep them even I guess but all it did was to help me lose interest.

Slow progression of story. Excellent narration.

The story progresses very little in this second book. The narration is very good so I stuck with it. Haven't decided if next book will be worth the time to listen

too wordy

Interesting story, but the plot was long and dry. Had to take many breaks to listen to all of it. I don't know if I can handle the last book.

Favorite Series this isn’t, but it’s a Favorite!!!

Well my favorite is LOTR. So that’s hard to beat. At first I thought this was a “typical” fantasy book: scullery boy runs from his castle in which ‘murder most foul and treachery too,’ has/is taking place. He meets a mysterious person who very helpfully doesn’t let Simon die of exposure and we’re off!
It’s so much better than any synopsis. Also, it’s really really long and well worth three credits especially as the final book of the “trilogy” was sold as two huge books, each th

Story seems ok but drags

I know the story is suppose to be epic, but seriously does every thought, every rock, and even the wind need three sentences if not more "to describe it?" This book easily could have been cut down by 100 pages without 'everything' being overly described. At this point I'm going to the last book just to say I've "read it."

Terrific

While some have said that the book meanders, and muddies the spoken performance, I find the voice acting impeccable, and the story enthralling. Multiple times I endured goosebumps upon realizing a certain part was coming up...

Good story. Well told, albeit very slowly.

Excellent narration. Very good character development and variety of beings. Story told very very slowly with great detail - you may like or dislike this aspect. But overall, a good listen for those who enjoy living with a story for a while.
