Publisher's summary

Jim was left in the custody of the League Navy, this story opens with him escaping from his prison cell on the League base on Steren-Gwandra, where he is awaiting deportation back to his home world. He has discovered that Bibs, a crew girl from Captain Garth's ship, is also a prisoner. Jim holds Garth responsible for the Bishop's death, and plans to hunt him down, with Bibs' help. Garth is really the crazed Captain Zennor, head of an army which continually defies League peace treaties, and now plans to invade and conquer the planet Chojecki. The people of Chojecki are pacifists, having no armies and no police. But Garth's generals decide to attack anyway, since there are no medals for "generals who bring back the troops intact". Jim must save the people of Chojecki before he can face Garth.

Good, but losing steam

This is a good story, but the series is starting to get a bit tired by this point. if you are a fan you will enjoy getting to spend time with old friends, but the quality isn't as good on this one. It almost feels forced like the author did it more because of fan demand than desire to tell a story. That is just mey personal opinion.

weakest of the 4 rat books I have read

A little predictable and unpolished. Slippery Jim wasn't quite on his game. some interesting characters.

A fun prequel

A fun continuation of the rat in his early years.
Phil Gigante is masterful at narration. As usual Jim Di Griz has to think his way through the toughest of situations. Enjoyed this story very much.

4 th time listening and would do it again!

I really like how at the end of the book Jim .... Jk no spoilers here!
In all seriousness, all around very finely done. Narration and story collide in once more a well told fiction.

The Rat saves a planet and perhaps the Galaxy.

Where does The Stainless Steel Rat Gets Drafted rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is my favorite of all the Stainless Steel Rat Series. I first read the book sometime back and now enjoy listening to it on Audible.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Stainless Steel Rat Gets Drafted?

This of course is the first book that The Rat is on his own entirely. We see that the lessons he learned from The Bishop seem to have stuck and he seems on his way to a glorious career in crime.

Have you listened to any of Phil Gigante’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I enjoy listening to Phil when he narrates.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I never listen to any audio book in one sitting.

Any additional comments?

Garth even with all of his soldiers and weapons never stood a chance against The Rat. As we will see later in the series, non of the truly bad guys have any shot.
