Publisher's summary

An explorer tug captain, Alex Racine detects a damaged alien craft drifting into the system. Recognizing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make first contact, Alex pulls off a daring maneuver to latch on to the derelict. Alex discovers the ship was attacked by an unknown craft, the first of its kind ever encountered. The mysterious silver ship's attack was both instant and deadly.

What enfolds is a story of the descendants of two Earth colony ships, with very different histories, meeting 700 years after their founding and uniting to defend humanity from the silver ships.

A new great author is arrising! Wonderful book!

This story and new series is possibly the finest work I have encountered in recent memory! It's like the best of Asimov, Pujol , Heinlein, and A.C. Clarke. Great reading!!!

Fluff, fluffy, fluff

What did you like best about The Silver Ships? What did you like least?

Interesting story in there somewhere. The second book covers all the first book in the first 10 minutes, thus, first book not even needed. This book is an example how an author can extend a simple story into a series - spend 2 pages on how to make toast! So, if you like fluff, details that do not extend the story, plow through this one - there is a good story in here.

Not a fan of the reading

The reader made it sound a little like a children's book. The story itself was ok I guess.

Slow, not much action.

I will get the next book to see if this was the build up for more interesting stories.

love the story

I thought the story was very good. The reader was easy to listen to but I would have preferred he used more voices in his reading. Most male readers try to raise their tone for women and change it up for men. This one mostly read all the characters in the same sound.

Great story and reader

The only disappointment I had with this book is that it ended. I look forward to its sequel. It was fun.

Really, really slow

This book just became background noise in my car ride and a great way to put me to sleep at night. The plot development is extremely slow. Every time I tried to pay attention I heard nothing but filler.

Great start to the series

As a space opera, this first book in the series has great promise. The characters are relatable and their development offer a hint of a classic sci-fi style. Silver Ships’ opening tome left me with looking forward to volume 2.

Exceptional start to The Silver Ships series

Grover Gardeners’ presentation is as spot on, as ever. This first book of the series establishes a good premise that I imagine will be as enjoyable as the Vorkosigan Saga by another author. That series was also performed by Grover Gardner.

Finally

Would you consider the audio edition of The Silver Ships to be better than the print version?

It has been a LONG time since I had a book that was reminiscent of the old school science fiction... filled with ideas, science, drama, morals, and was interesting. I did not want to stop, and at the end, was left wanting more. Great Job!

Who was your favorite character and why?

The main character is Alex. He is humble, ingenious, likeable, loyal, and believable. He proves to be a great leader and role model.
