Publisher's summary

The third book in the new epic fantasy series fans are comparing to David Gemmell and Raymond E. Feist. Lady Iskra and her followers have survived the onslaught of demons, forged powerful alliances, and are finally ready to wreck righteous vengeance on the Ascendant Empire. Yet even as they begin their endgame, a new danger arises that threatens to annihilate everything in its path, heretic or no: Tharok, the greatest peril to humanity since Ogri the Destroyer. The Siege of Abythos continues the action-packed new epic fantasy series that began with The Path of Flames - an adrenaline-fueled debut of sin casting mages, heresy, and cold-blooded betrayal in a land where the deepest buried secrets are finally resurfacing to destroy the world.

Brilliant!

Once again, we have delved even deeper into the same set of POV characters and I'm loving it.

As always, the only thing keeping Noah Michael Levine's performance from being five stars is the assortment of words he pronounces so strangely (I hesitate to say he's saying them wrong, but it definitely doesn't sound right to me).

As has been the way with this series, this book picked up right where Black Shriving left off and it is almost immediately clear why this book is so much longer than the others in the series.

In this story, the plot expands, the personal goings on with the characters expands, we're seeing new facets of characters, and being introduced to wholly new places with all new organizations and nuances.

As has been my experience with this series thus far, the minor grammar problems (mainly with passive voice, some clunky sentences, and excessive telling rather than showing) are the only things preventing this story from earning five stars. It isn't bad enough to completely pull me out of the story, but it is an annoyance that hinders my total immersion in the books.

Now, there are some truly awesome things going on in this story. There are several major twists (one of which, involving Asho, didn't end up going anywhere near the direction I expected!), some of which forced me to reevaluate a number of things I thought were established. And while I'm not sure it was meant to be as hilarious as I found it, there are a couple of subplots with Ottsley that had me rolling!

As I've mentioned in previous reviews, there are quite a few parallels between these books and George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series, and not at all in a bad way.

I really love the way things are coming together with the major conflicts, and yes, Ferrick is still my favorite character. I have to admit, though, that Tyron and Kethe and starting to challenge that!

As always, in this book Phil Tucker gives us a gradual building of climaxes as we climb our way to the end of the book.

There are a number of mini heart attacks along the way as characters fall into disasters and are forced to summon the reserves to dig their way back out of them.

As I've come to expect, the final climax at the end does not disappoint. There are so many awesome things going on and so many shocking reveals, it's hard to really do them justice in a non-spoiler review.

Now matter how much I always expect otherwise, everything is nicely tied together and closed off for the ending, but in such a way that I can't wait to dive into the next book!

It's a good thing I already have it and can jump right in.

Awesome

Quite the adventure. Love it. Second listen. Highly recommend. Read the first two books and then this one for a better understanding of plot.

Fantastic series!

I have been in listening to this series with such joy at finally finding another author that I can look forward to! I am sure I am not the only one who tries book after book after book in search of someone who is worth finishing an entire book let alone continuing on through their bibliography. Now I must go start the next book because I can't wait to see what happens to these delicious characters.😁

So Epic!!!!

I was blown away by this book. The stakes are so high, and everything feels so momentous. I found myself shouting out loud several times in reaction to what was happening.

Disconnected.

Good narration, but the story is broken up between different point of views, multiple first person narration, which is good but they are all in the same location, or experiencing the same thing. But they have next to zero interaction, zero reaction about what happens to each other, which either means the author sucks or the characters are all selfish asses. And the morality of the story was insuferable. The characters either on par with Jesus or heartless bastards. And the characters that were supposedly the reader is, I guess, supposed to connect to are either pansy's that have no spine. Asho is the biggest ass kissing pansy that can't stand up for himself, who tries to be a hero but instead always manages to mess up. He's weak, morally and in how he interacts with the world. Sacrifices everything, his people, hell he could have stood with them and ended their suffering but instead betrays them, ends all hope that they could be put in a better position, why? For an empire that oppresses them, murdered his father, betrays a friend, and he does it so heartlessly that damn... he's just a weak man. Has no backbone. But the author tries to make him out as the good guy. Just sad I spent money on this series. And the sadistic way he forces the characters to turn into honorable people, which is disgusting, literally everybody is practically sacrificed on a cross, which turns into a dramatized mess. Sadistic without meaning. Did not appreciate it. So not a book for me.

Ooh Asho

I think this series suffers from pacing issues.
My main thing is Asho.
idk what he is at this point.
not the best fight, can't really sin cast well.
it felt like he was not important

Comment

This would have been a good read for me if it weren't for the profanity and unnecessary coupling descriptions.

Good book

Warcraft, D&D and Stargate are an interesting mixture. I do like this series. Can't wait to listen to more.
