This is the 4th book of a really fun and entertaining series. I have really enjoyed every book so far. The narrator is great and the story just picks up where the last one left off, which I really like in a fantasy series. I will definitely look out for the next book in the series.
I have enjoyed all the books in this series so far and this one is no exception and the performance by the narrator is up to his usual high standards too.
One thing I like about this series is the way that while our two leads have had very different paths and goals, you feel like it has been a natural or organic kind of progression for them to both get to where they are now.
With some of the earlier books in the series I have found that my enthusiasm flagged a little in places, but this one did not have that issue even at the beginning, despite the ongoing escalation in the story this one had a better mix of the large-scale action and the more personal level than the previous book and was stronger for having that balance.
Overall, I think that anyone who has enjoyed earlier books in the series will find this one just as good or even better for them than the previous ones.

David Dalglish’s writing and C.J. McAllister’s narration are both top notch and they have created another excellent story. The story of the two half orc brothers has been an epic one so far, with highs, lows, plenty of emotion, battles, war and conflict as well as joy and happiness in places. This series of books has, in my opinion, some of the best written characters you will find in a book.
Fantasy at its best, As with the others in this series, It is clearly in a Dungeons and Dragons type setting with swords, magic, gods, apparent character classes. If you know what a D20 is and like audiobooks give this one a go.
David Dalglish has rapidly become one of my favourite authors of all time for the quality of their writing, their world craft and the sheer depth they put into their characters. Add to all that a great story and it got me hooked.
Anything narrated C.J. McAllister is worth listening to just for the quality of the narration and the amount they add to each character with their unique voices, deep emotions and personalities.
This book is best if you have listened to the others before it, this history of the characters and past events are the foundation for everything that happens in this book. I can not tell if the writing and narration are getting even better with each book or if it is my investment in the characters that make each book seem better than the last.
The only problem with this book is I have finished it and now want to listen to the next one right now… but it is not out yet. I very much want to know what happens next.
This is my favourite series of books I have listened to this year and I highly recommend them.
