Publisher's summary

Mike Auburn dangles above the city of Chicago from the beams of a half-built skyscraper. He is seconds from plummeting towards the circuit board of buildings and streetlights below, but oblivion is not what he seeks - it's the dead.

Obsessed with discovering evidence of the afterlife, Mike's death-defying stunts have brought him closer than ever to lifting the veil of reality, always just out of reach. However, his ventures to the edge have not gone unnoticed, and a mysterious organization by the name "O'Neill" seeks to recruit him to their own cause: preparing the city for impending Ragnarok, the end of the world as they know it.

Before long, a world ruled by scientific method and rational thinking is challenged by the supernatural - luring the dead, the damned, and the demons that have long awaited the return of magic, and they will stop at nothing to bring it back for good. Suddenly, Mike is at the center of a battle between the forces of reason, of good, of evil...and everything in between.

A dive into the shadows

What did you love best about The Seventh Age?

I loved that is is written for those of us who enjoy the supernatural creatures that are not fluffy and diluted for teenage consumption. That still have their dark and gritty sides.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Mike. Can't explain without giving too much away.

Would you listen to another book narrated by James Patrick Cronin?

I would give him a second chance his accents change for a few characters through out the book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes.

The feel of the World of Darkness with a twist

Really enjoyed your book. Not very good at reading but having this on audio was perfect. Great book to sit back, relax with a glass of wine and listen to the stories of a Demon world!

The end of the world - Gift Wrapped

The world ends and death reigns supreme. Or so things may seem. This is a dark romp through the secret societies of Chicago and the power they wield. However this isn't your Dan Brown novel. This feels like a love letter to Vampire the Masquerade. I always felt like the machinations of the world were ignoring Mike (The Protagonist) till it was too late. This is exactly what I would expect from elder powers that be. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is a fan of intrigue and action, with a healthy dollop of conspiracy.

Splendid!

This was an cool story! Mike's is a cool guy who always up to fight for what's right! The villains and side characters are their own brand of entertaining and the ending is an amazing sequel hook that leaves me ready for more! Chicago represent!

Of course I'm biased...

Where does The Seventh Age rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Well, I normally am not a big audiobook fan. But, as strange as this sounds, hearing someone else, in this case James, read your own work... is a great way for an author to hear the story as if it WAS by someone else! One hell of an engaging ride.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Seventh Age?

Hands down, Mike Auburn's sarcasm. It comes across SO well in the audio format. While all these crazy things are happening all around... Mike's quips are even better in audio format than in my own brain.

What does James Patrick Cronin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Pacing. Hands down. James brings an element of pacing to the novel that captures the mood and intent of the story and it enhances each chapter. If you were to just read each chapter, you might fly through them, or read slower than intended. James brings to life those tense moments.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

All the power of creation... and you humans use your divine gifts to track taco trucks.

Any additional comments?

If you are looking a brutal urban fantasy novel with a healthy dash of sarcasm... here you go. Of course, as stated above... I'm biased. I wrote the damn thing. :).

Read it or eat your heart out

A faustian tale where wonders of magic and epic heroes returns as the world goes to Hell. The story accelerates into a shadowed world of secret societies, vampires, gods, demons and monsters through the eyes of a fascinating cast of characters. The characters feel real. They all come from a mixed past. Facing their moment decisions in an honest and some times less than noble manner. In the vibrant cast, not one character's story felt trite. They all square off in the a story that pulls from the mythos of dozens of culture's apocalypse to create a fascinating modern tale of biblical global change .

An engaging tale, a bit crunchy but a fun listen.

the narrator was good with side characters, but needed a better voice for Vryce. too stereotypical in it's hand wringing villain archetype
