Publisher's Summary

The galaxy is burning. The Emperor's loyal primarchs prepare to do battle with Warmaster Horus and his turncoat Legions on the black sand of Isstvan.
Such dark times herald new and yet more terrible things still to come, and when Astropath Kai Zulane unwittingly learns a secret that threatens to tip the balance of the war, he is forced to flee for his life. Alongside a mysterious band of renegades, he plunges into the deadly underworld of Terra itself, hunted like a criminal by those he once trusted. In the face of betrayal, Kai must decide where his own loyalties lie and whether some truths should be buried forever.

Wow!

Easily one of the best in the Horus Heresy series. The author does a great job of making the listener (reader) develop an attachment to the tragic characters. You won't be disappointed in this book.

This one rules

Outcast Dead takes the reader through a very long and twisting tale with everything coming together at the end. McNeill really captures the torment of faithful Emperors servants being cast aside or brutally betrayed by those they serve.

Jonathan Keeble is perfection

Any book read by his Perfect voice is a treat. The story is interesting but one if the more bland.

Timeline!?

The narrator is exceptional. That’s the only redeeming feature of this book. It doesn’t fit in the timeline and jarringly so which takes you out of the experience trying to figure it out. The details that are given such as background of the astrotelepathicus etc could have been delivered in a short story or novella. That way it wouldn’t feel like a chore just to pick up these few details that are only important for fleshing out the universe rather than being pertinent to the continuing story. If it wasn’t for the narrators stellar performance I would have given Just one star.
