Very scary kids

What is more frightening than a quiet, pastoral village being invaded by alien children? Wyndham may have been the first to put this modern twist to the old "changeling" story.
Short as this novel is, it gradually and clearly develops the nature of the children's power and their menace to a seemingly impotent human race.
The escalating horror of The Midwich Cuckoos is enhanced by the reader's perfect British composure.

wonderful story, but why abridge?

Any additional comments?

I don't understand why audible won't offer the unabridged version, which is only 3 hours more. There were parts of the story that didnt make sense, presumably because their circumstances were left out entirely. Early is mentioned that one of the children didnt survive but without any indication as to why. The unabridged version was at least at one point available, as I see it's page on amazon, so I'm not sure why we arent at least given the option to have it here. I love John Wyndham, so this is disappointing.
