Pleasantly Surprised

I was pleasantly surprised to find that I enjoyed this book as well as the narration. I kept yelling at one of the main characters because he was acting like a childish peacock but by the end I liked him a little better.

Good, short, story.

Modesitt, Feist or Eddings

These Godling novels kept coming out and I wondered. I had not heard of Brian D. Anderson and then I saw this free prequel. This is a great way to discover what you may or may not like. It didn't do it for me, but for you die hard fantasy fans it might. This could be compared to L.E. Modesitt Jr., Raymond Feist or David Eddings.

Intriguing appetiser to what can become an epic

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I enjoyed the story and felt the description had me concocting the imagery of the scenes in my head.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I think all the characters were quite balanced. Each had a strength and a weakness and I couldn't really enjoy one more than another.

What does Derek Perkins bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

The arrogance of the Lee. The humble wisdom of Millet. The brutality of Jalil. He brought those characters out.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The confrontation and realisation of fate between Lee and the Blackness.

Any additional comments?

There were points in the plot that had me think whether it was likely to have happened or whether it was just a Ex Machina for the story. Also it was a slight dampener to have two separate stories of the of the short story and the prologue preview to have very similar scenes of old guardian failing to protect some artefact. I wonder if repetition is used more often in his other stories.

Not my type of story.

I persevered but didn't finish it. Struggled with the story - not really my style.
