Publisher's Summary

Thirty years ago, the Iron Wolves held back mud-orc hordes at the Pass of Splintered Bones, and led a brutal charge that saw the sorcerer Morkagoth slain.
Now, a new terror stalks the realm. Orlana the Changer has escaped from the Chaos Halls and is building an army, twisting horses, lions and bears into terrible, bloody hunters, summoning mud-orcs from the slime and heading north to battle the mighty region of Vagandrak where, it's said, the King has gone insane. General Dalgoran searches to reunite the heroes of old for what he believes will be their final battle. But Dalgoran discovers the Iron Wolves are no longer the heroes of legend, and they might just be more dangerous than the invading hordes…

This is different. I listened for over nine hours. The author seems to have some Abercrombie, Erickson and Tolkien in him. For the first two hours, I was very happy, but the story started to get a bit stale and tiring after a while. I think the author may have bitten off more than he could chew. Remic is not a new author, but he has yet to achieve the status of being well known. I believe he should learn to write shorter novels before taking on epics.

While I did not finish this one, I was intrigued enough by the writing that I have the first book of his vampire series in my wish list.

this book highlighted the darkside of human nature

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

yes, this book was very dark and gritty. the main characters were by all accounts evil men and woman bent on doing the right thing one last time. and I think everyone needs to read a book without a happy ending.

Who was your favorite character and why?

it would have to be Nanok. he went through the most "horse shit" as he would say, and still managed to be the most noble member of the iron wolves. I would go so far as to say he wasn't even evil like the others just worn out by a hard life.

Which scene was your favorite?

the fight scene between Dek and Nanok. I don't think the fight itself was any better or worse then any other but the author built up to this one with the past that the two fighters shared.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

the book was really to long to make that feasible. but it did keep my attention the whole time.

Any additional comments?

the author spent the whole book working to a conclusion that took only 20 minutes. I was a little disappointed I know that there are supposed to be more books coming out so maybe the open questions he left hanging will be answered there. I don't know it just felt like he rushed the climax a little.
