Publisher's summary

In the blockbuster and best-selling tradition of Jurassic Park comes the breakneck new adventure from New York Times and number-one internationally best-selling author Matthew Reilly, whose imaginative, cinematic thrillers "make you feel like a kid again; [they're] a blast" (Booklist). It is a secret the Chinese government has been keeping for 40 years. They have proven the existence of dragons - a landmark discovery no one could ever believe is real and a scientific revelation that will amaze the world. Now the Chinese are ready to unveil their astonishing findings within the greatest zoo ever constructed. A small group of VIPs and journalists has been brought to the zoo deep within China to see these fabulous creatures for the first time. Among them is Dr. Cassandra Jane "CJ" Cameron, a writer for National Geographic, and an expert on reptiles. The visitors are assured by their Chinese hosts that they will be struck with wonder at these beasts, that the dragons are perfectly safe, and that nothing can go wrong. Of course it can't....

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Mathew Reilly is the best action story teller today . His books including The Great China Zoo is like watching a big blockbuster summer popcorn movie . Warning , this audiobook will make you late for work , meetings , sleeping , because you have to hear whats gonna happen next

Kept me riveted!

Loved this book! Reilly does an amazing job of keeping the action and adventure going and not letting up. I'd find myself sitting in my car just listening to the book...long after I'd already parked it. That's how good he is at immersing you into the story. It's definitely different from what he normally writes, but I loved it.

Loved it

Compelling, fast paced while showing both sides of the human coin. The integrity of the main character was inspiring!

A hair raising adventure!

I totally enjoyed this book. It was a thrill a minute and the characters were interesting. Many of the perilous escapes were a little far fetched, but you have to suspend your scepticism when reading a book about dragons anyway. It was lots of fun.

Exclamation points are exhausting

Basically this is a high concept story that was delivered in a way over the top writing and reading style. I don't blame the reader because there probably was an exclamation point at the end of every sentence. No character development and an endless series of events that were imminent life or death moments that became a boring blur of who cares who dies in whatever gruesome way. I won't go see the blockbuster movie it was trying to be written as. Did you see Godzilla in the 90's?

A Kickass Story with a Kickass Hero

I really enjoyed this book. It really was quite an adventure and thrill ride. My only objection was that a couple of rescues were just a little too fortuitous, but overall it was a non-stop thrill ride.

Dragon park

basically jurassic park, but with dragons. very predictable at times. wouldn't be surprised if the plot was used for jurassic park 2. a good read nonetheless.

Not for the faint hearted

What did you love best about The Great Zoo of China?

I would never want to see a movie of this book it is just too gory. I did like the story line and the characters. I was on the edge of my seat most of the time, but I would never try listening to it when I was trying to nap on the train, it would have made for disturbing dreams.

What other book might you compare The Great Zoo of China to and why?

I really can't think of anything close.

What about Rich Orlow’s performance did you like?

He kept the intensity of the story on edge at all time.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It was hard to stop listening

Amazing!

Take Matthew Reilly's flair, a female version of Dirk Pitt, add China's homage to Jurassic Park and you have The Great Zoo of China.
I'm used to the high octane roller coaster that Matthew Reilly delivers but this was a step above the excellence I know to expect. If this is the caliber we can expect from future Reilly books then the competition needs to step up (a long way). I'm counting the days till I meet up with Shane Schofield or The Black Knight on my literary travels.
