This book is not pulling any punches

What did you love best about The Fear?

Delivers on Lovecraft. Answers 'what would happen if an old one awoke', in short - it wouldn't be good!

Any additional comments?

This is part one. I'm hoping to see follow-ups soon!

Captivatingly gruesome- a perfect new twist on Lovecratian horror

The story is a fabulous account on what would happen in the world as we know it if Cthulhu were to rise from the depths of his slumber. In a world where Lovecraft has become part of our pop culture, it truly drags you in to the terror and psychotic horror that H.P. originally created. Each event feels perfectly in place, true to our world, even as the gruesome awe of what is happening sends shivers down one's spine.
The narrator's tone is a great vocal choice to sound like "just the facts, ma'am" until we are introduced to the characters. The characters themselves each have their own unique voice and life, and I easily found myself rooting for them or cringing about what was to befall them. The narrative, while dryly given, seems to heighten the eery, the unimaginable, and the bloody gore perfectly.
If you enjoy Lovecraft's stories, you'll love revisiting his world in our present day setting. If you've never read his stories, familiar or not you'll be drawn into this apocalyptic tale which will chill you to the core, reminding all readers how frail we humans are.

Don't Be Fooled by the Stupid Book Title

There aren't many good books about giant ancient monsters attacking so this is a breath of fresh air. The tile makes it sound like it's going to be a schlocky piece of hack but it's surprisingly not at all. It's actually well-written and how the world reacts to the extinction level event of Cthulhu rising is probably pretty accurate. It's a good read and if you are like me and love a good book about terrifying monster attack then this book if for you. Hopefully there will be a better titled sequel.

Decent story, lackluster performance.

The story is fine. It's the nerve raider that's the problem with this particular production. He is so robotic I had to take a break from listening several times.
You're better off buying an actual hard copy of this.

Great Lovecraftian story!

I loved the entire book and I am anxiously waiting for the next book (which is already out) to be released in audible. Hint hint.

Excellent, fun apocaplyse, narrated by a robot

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The book is great, if you are a Lovecraft fan, you will love the reality/fantasy tie in

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Fear?

The initial sighting of Cthulhu. Loved all of the WTF reactions of the characters

How did the narrator detract from the book?

He overdid some of the character voices which could be entertaining at times. The majority of his narration sounded like a male Siri or a text to voice app. Almost ruined the experience

Did The Fear inspire you to do anything?

Yeah, stay away from the southern hemisphere

Where do I start....

Horrible production quality, narrator sounds bored and monotone, and should never have been allowed to read this book.

Poor Naration

The story itself was good. A nice Lovecraftian horror. The concern was the narration. Maybe this was early in the narrators career, but much seemed like a computer. The words being spoken in a stream, without much inflection, little to no emotion and not reflecting the tone or feel of the moment. Sometimes when voicing a character it would improve, but not often.

Harmless but banal story

A harmless story with a banal narrator.
Libervox quality. Not worth the Audible price. Get it from the library.
