should have listened the sample

This is the first book ever I won't be finishing due to the narration and the story so far.

I feel like the intonation of the lines the narrator uses completely miss the mark. instead of the regular feelings I get from listening it felt confusing because the emotions in her voice didn't correlate with what was being said.

The attitude the crew of the ship had didn't seem military at all and it bothered me.

I realize it's my fault for not listening to the preview but whats done is done.

Disregard any bad review re: Veronica Giguere!

I currently have 449 audio books just in my Audible library and have listened to every one, some multiple times. I have heard every level narrator there is and, now about to purchase Book 10 of The Empire of Bones for an even 450, I can tell you that Vicki G is definitely on my list of quality talent. She does start off a little shaky in the first book but it is no where near as bad as I have seen posted in other reviews. She quickly gets into her characters and the story and simply gets better every minute. Hell, she is so damn good that Terry literally created a Veronica Giguere character and set her right in the middle of the action!
If you passed on this series because of negative comments about the narrator, give it another chance, I think you be pleasantly surprised. Veronica is dynamite!

WOW!!!

I've read the books numerous times. Actually, I reread them every time a new book is published. While reading them myself is best, these audible books are great.
Once again, great job Terry!!!

Can't listen through it

So, I haven't even finished this book yet, but I had to say something. It's interesting so far, and I have no problems with the story line, I actually like a lot. However, the reader keeps on making the wrong inflections. It's mostly subtle, but once I started to notice it, it continued to bother me until I just couldn't anymore and had to take a break. I first started noticing it when the author explicitly stated that the character said something in a toneless voice and then the reader proceeded to read the dialogue with a nervous inflection. this happens thoughout the book, or at least the parts that I listened to, being most noticable in spots where the character should have been firm and professional and instead had some sort of nervous, angry, etc. tone.

Cannot wait to read the rest of this epic saga!

Between Terry Mixon's writing and Veronica Gigeure's narration this really sucks you in. Great characters put into crazy situation after situation. Kelsey Bandar and Jarad Mertz may be two of the best characters that I've read/listened to in quite a while. Looking forward to reading/listening to more of this series.

Slow to start but a fun ride after the hook is set

Ill be completely honest, I had a really hard time getting into this book at first. The thing that baffles me the most is that all the right elements were there. Decent characters, an interesting scene to open with and no lengthy exposition dump in sight. Still though I had to keep coming back to it time after time and couldn't seem to get into it for more than 10 to 15 minutes at a time. I am however glad that I did work through it as when the book finally caught my interest it definitely kept it and from there on out it wasn't a problem at all. I don't know if everyone will have this initial hump to get over or it just hit me wrong but give the book a chance and I'm sure that you'll be glad you did.

I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Classic Sci-Fi in the best sense of the genre

This is an omnibus volume with the first three books of the saga. It is followed by an included short story that comes with a spoiler warning - do not read the short before book 4 which is not included in this set?
I really enjoyed this saga and will certainly look into getting more volumes.
Well written and narrated. Thanks Terry and Veronica!

Classic sci-fi

I received a free copy of this book from the author / narrator / publisher in exchange for an unbiased review.

Earlier, I had read book 3 and 4 of the series without reading the first two books. Thus, I was feeling a disconnect, even though those books were good on their own too. But now that I received this omnibus edition for review, I read from the start of this series and then book 3 and 4 made so much more sense and were that much more entertaining.

If you like classic sci-fi stories and space opera, you should give this series a try. The series starts strong and keeps going strong. There is hardly any boring chapter in the books. it held my attention through out and was a very entertaining read.

The narrator does a great job too.

Enh!

It was okay when I couldn't find anything else I wanted to listen to. The narrator was TERRIBLE, though. Breathy throughout and I had to turn off some of my enjoyment to block the practice.
