Editorial Reviews

"The Defenders" takes place after an imagined world war has devastated the planet. Human beings are forced to live underground in bunkers, while robots continue to fight as human proxies immune to the effects of radiation. But the robots, called leadys, may have some wisdom beyond that of the humans that made them. And in this story they anticipate the time when humans will be ready to learn it. A classic science fiction story by Philip K. Dick, it is doused with a great splash of humanism, and Jim Roberts' friendly voice increases the reader's enjoyment tenfold.
