Publisher's Summary

"Twoflower was a tourist, the first ever seen on the Discworld. Tourist, Rincewind decided, meant idiot."Somewhere on the frontier between thought and reality exists the Discworld, a parallel time and place that might sound and smell very much like our own, but that looks completely different. It plays by different rules. Certainly it refuses to succumb to the quaint notion that universes are ruled by pure logic and the harmony of numbers. But just because the Disc is different doesn't mean that some things don't stay the same. Its very existence is about to be threatened by a strange new blight: the arrival of the first tourist, upon whose survival rests the peace and prosperity of the land. But if the person charged with maintaining that survival in the face of robbers, mercenaries, and, well, Death, is a spectacularly inept wizard, a little logic might turn out to be a very good idea. The Colour of Magic is the first novel in Terry Pratchett's acclaimed Discworld series, of which some 20 million copies have been sold.

Horribly abridged

Unfortunately no unabridged version of this book is available here.
The abridged version destroys the immersion for me completely.
Characters are thrown from once place to another, people are introduced and then discarded without further context.
Not recommended.

Persevere - you won't be disappointed

It took me 3 goes (once trying to read the book itself) before I 'got it'. There is a mindset that accompanies appreciation of Mr Pratchett's sense of humour and incredible imagination. Now I have that mindset, I'm hooked!!

Simply Brilliant

Vocally animated more by Tony than you could probably do yourself in your own head! Written by a legend and voiced by one.. perfect harmonious storytelling of the first Discworld Novel.

Perfect mating of author and narrator.

Where does The Colour of Magic rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is the best matching of author and narrator that I have come across so far. To the point that I will now be hunting up all of Tony Robinsons narrations of Terry Pratchetts books!
Excellent.

Who was your favorite character and why?

There is no possibility of selecting one favourite when it comes to characters in this book. Let's face it, all of Terry Pratchetts characterisations are the best. Good, bad or down right crazy, they all surpass the standard character of any book.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I now play these in the car. So every time I get in and turn on the key, Tony's voice comes piping through the speakers and my grin is instantaneous.

Any additional comments?
