Build your own castle, tame a dragon, conquer a kingdom! All those desperate, lonely, and insecure - Mirror World offers you a chance!" But Oleg isn't meant to become a great wizard or a famous warrior. He'll never have a castle of his own. Nor will he ever tame a dragon. Fight, survive, adapt, and rely only on yourself. That is Derek’s creed and what's got him through the System Integration on Earth. Everything changed when the System came. Cute bunnies and beautiful butterflies became savage killing machines. Then the Invaders arrived with a single goal: to obtain ownership of this new habitable planet. War has raged ever since. None of this mattered much to Derek, aside from making living a little more perilous.

Story
Eric was born in a world governed by the Great System, in the family of Aren Bergman, a respected miner from Orchus. But the joy of gaining a son was overshadowed by the newborn's terrible affliction. Eric was completely nulled-level zero and no characteristics points. The only things keeping him from dying were his tiny base supplies of "life" and "energy". The medicine woman who delivered Eric believes this to be the work of the evil spirit, Bug. Due to the peculiar laws of the Great System, Eric cannot use experience essences or characteristics tablets.

He and his best friend, an axe with a powerful Fusion that causes it to become sharper and stronger than a normal tool, are feared by the trees in the magical forest north of his home, as he can fell the quickly growing monoliths faster than anyone else in the community.

Every year, the empire administers the rite of passage into adulthood. That rite serves to identify those blessed by Aether to become magi. The new magi are shipped to the academy to learn the arts of magic. The academy is a dangerous place; the tournaments held twice each year can cripple or kill the students, and the clans of the empire will go to great lengths to recruit the students they want. Gregory had one dream: to become a magi like the legends of old. Though he was ridiculed by the residents of the village and his unsupportive father, he never wavered from his dream.

When Alice Verianna went to sleep, she was just another teen from the Denver suburbs. She definitely didn't expect to be transported to a magical alternate dimension, inhabited by monsters and presided over by a mysterious System. Here, people resemble RPG characters and everyone has access to their own status screens. Grappling with the mechanics of the elusive System isn't the only challenge Alice faces. It seems an underground organization known as the Society of Starry Eyes has taken a particular interest in other dimensions.

Surviving the first days of the apocalypse, William is a wreck and hiding in an attic. The daily acid storms, floating elementals, and bizarre mutated animals are the least of his problems. The reality-warping apocalypse has rules and a system much like those in video games. To survive, he must learn how the new uncooperative system works, choose a class without any real knowledge of what it does and create a place safe from the spawning horrors.

It’s not easy making the career jump from office-supplies-store middle manager to heroic interdimensional adventurer. At least, Jason tries to be heroic, but it's hard to be good when all your powers are evil. He’ll face off against cannibals, cultists, wizards, monsters...and that’s just on the first day. He’s going to need courage, he’s going to need wit, and he’s going to need some magic powers of his own. But first, he’s going to need pants.

Launch day. That was what they called it. The day when over four million people vanished in an instant from the island of Manhattan. The day earthquakes ravaged the east coast. The day a 101-kilometer tall tower rose from the wreckage of the now empty city. The day every screen, newspaper, and smart phone displayed a single message from an unknown source: The Great Emperor has issued his challenge.

Ryker only has one goal in his life right now: Turn a certain adventuring guild into a flaming wreck while dancing merrily through the smoldering ruins. All for the chance to get back at a handful of people. It isn’t as if they didn’t deserve it either. They had driven him from his home. Chased him physically from the very guild house itself. Simply because he wasn’t as strong as they expected him to be. As strong as he’d expected himself to be. He’d returned the next day and left with something he’d hidden away and told no one about when he found it in one of his few Dungeon Dives.

The familiar world collapsed overnight. As the Transformation progressed, disasters occurred throughout the Earth. Materials changed their properties, new species of flora and fauna appeared. The Game converted our world into a huge dungeon, completely replacing the previous civilization. However, the alien plans for Earth began to go awry from the very beginning. The conversion was less successful than expected. An ordinary young man stole the bonus for the first gaming action, depriving the invaders of their perk.

I just wanted to let off some steam in virtual reality and ended up getting murdered and imprisoned in the body of one of the undead - slow, clumsy, and cursed to die at the hand of other players over and over again. For eons, conquering dungeons has been the most efficient way to become a strong adventurer. Although not everything is as straightforward as it seems. Several questions have always plagued the minds of those who enter these mythical places of power: why are there so many monsters? Where do the amazing weaponry and heavy gold coins come from? Why does the very air fill with life-giving energies? Cal has all of the answers to these age-old questions, for a very simple reason. He is a Dungeon Heart.

Story could be ...
The story had lots of potential and it was fun to follow, but the pace and unneeded material slowed it up.
I had to speed it up just to keep from getting bored.
Plus I am confused by Oleg. At times he is an idiot with no common sense and other times he is bright. At one moment he is scared of everything (even though he cannot take damage) and next he is brave. He has money issues, and wants to and needs to save every penny, but then he throws cash around like it is nothing. The inconsistency was annoying.
Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.

Real - Virtual Reality!
If you could sum up The Citadel in three words, what would they be?
Engaging, Exciting, addictive
What did you like best about this story?
The main character's very human characteristics, concerns, weaknesses and strengths
What about Kyle McCarley’s performance did you like?
His Well-paced narrating, his different character voices and sticking with those voices through out the book. His ability to vary pitch and cadence according to the story's action/scenarios.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Chuckled a few times, surprised (plesantly) several times, feeling of satisfaction and longing for the continuing of the tale.
Any additional comments?
This is a fun, interesting and enjoyable series so far. While I hope the next offering is well on its way, I also hope she takes the time to continue writing a well-crafted story.

good
Well it was a well done book. The one thing that bugged me is that I wish I would speed up the narration just a bit. The narration is to slow, and it bugged me.

Great series!
I liked the second book much more than the first so stick it out with the series even if you thought the first book was only ok, it does get much better. Where the first book goes between real life and the game, I really enjoyed this one focusing almost entirely on Mirror World. I am very much looking forward to book 3 and am happy I started this series!

Poor writing
I don't know if it is a translation problem that caused it, but repeatedly hearing "now what do we have here," or "let's take a look" was distracting. The story moves slow.

A better story than the first book.
This book added a large amount of story to mirror world. I really enjoyed it, though I did miss some aspects from the frist book that drew me in. I recommend this book series.

story gets better, narattor still anoyingly slow
Any additional comments?
For a second book in a series its good, the story gets better, main character gets more debt. only thing that annoys me is that the narrator is reading a bit slow.

chopped up
My only problem is that it feels like one book split up into several. I found it very enjoyable though.

Nevermind... nevermind... nevermind...
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
sure, it was a decent and entertaining book
Any additional comments?
The main character has started to get incredibly repetitive. His catchphrase.. Never mind. He says it about 1-5 times per chapter and now i cringe every time i hear it. Either the writer has started getting lazy after the first book or else I just started noticing his repetitive style the more of his writing I listen to. either way I hope the third book is better but so far its not. Still a good book. still gonna finish the series but it could have been great if the writing wasn't so blah.
